Has anyone fitted a Dyna silencer marked 'catalitic' - I would assume that these are more restricted than the old Dyna silencers?

I don't think they restrict enough to make any difference...
They will blue a bit at the point of the heating coil though.
I wouldn't be deterred from using one, if I had it already owned it, but I'd prefer one without.

I have a CAT version and have had no ill effects from it. I also got the heat shield with it (that you see) and it covers what would be any bluing or darkening, but to be honest I think I run slightly rich and this keeps the muffler from getting super hot. I have been running this for probably 2.5 years and have no visible bluing on mine.

People say you can drill out the CAT from the header side, but it is more trouble than it is worth for me considering that it has been running well and not bluing at all.

I drilled/cut/chiseled the catalyst out of one - man that is a really tough job. The stuff is just difficult to get out.

Ok till cat plugs up and you cook your engine , maybe out in the boonies !! :'(

The Harley CAt is not chemical,.. it's basically just a passive metal heat coil that heats up and burns off unspent gases...
It'll never plug up...

SALB, not really a lot that I can tell as I had the bike fairly well tuned before adding the DYNA.

Since all I got was a little 'poof' after my tuning (before the DYNA) I have sorta stopped paying attention, but don't think I get much of anything aside from an occasional real soft 'whoof' at shutdown. You know how it is when you get used to something...

I can assure you that I rarely if ever get a true backfire or 'pop' like most of us did when we first got the bikes and hadn't tuned them yet.
