Title: Best jack for lifting S40? Post by JLC on 06/02/17 at 06:29:41 What is the best store-bought jack for lifting a Savage/S40? |

Can be used for other purposes? Are you looking for a specific motorcycle jack that lifts the entire bike or just a jack to put under the case? |

Title: Re: Best jack for lifting S40? Post by JLC on 06/02/17 at 08:36:16 "Best" as meaning one that does fit the Savage/S40 well, is safe, lifts the whole motorcycle, and provides good access for working on the bike. Looking online I found many lifts from under $100 up to $400, and I am ready to pay anything in this price range for the right item. I am only looking for a motorcycle lift, as I have an automotive lift for my other vehicles. I am hoping there are members here who have tried different lifts and found one or two that work really well. I will consider home made for sure. |
Title: Re: Best jack for lifting S40? Post by verslagen1 on 06/02/17 at 08:51:30 I would hazard a guess that the 2 rail m/c jacks offer the most versatility. But really depends on you. The header hangs down a bit, so the RYCA style adapter plate is needed. I have a floor jack to lift the rear wheel. Put under the muff bracket it's pretty stable for the rear wheel work. I have jack stands for front wheel work. 1 under each foot peg and it's pretty stable. I also have a chain hoist. Take the tank off, hook the center square tube and you lift it as high as you want, work front, rear, both. Wiggles a lot, but it ain't falling ever. I also have a old style bumper jack that'll lift the bike like a m/c floor jack. A bit unstable, need to make the RYCA style adapter plate for it. |
Title: Re: Best jack for lifting S40? Post by ero4444 on 06/02/17 at 13:42:18 not too long ago I bought a "triple lift" jack from Pep Boys for about $100, that has #1 "large" lift platform big enough for a transmission or motorcycle. #2 a removable jack pad for point lifts #3 a brace to insert when you jack it all the way up, to function as a jackstand. Not the best for anything, but it is pretty sweet while it works. I read a couple of stories about it leaking oil - it hasn't happened yet, and it is serviceable with new o-rings. With jack stands it makes rotating car tires easy. If you find it in store for $75 that's a steal. https://www.pepboys.com/product/details/198976/01036?bvstate=pg:2/ct:r |
Title: Re: Best jack for lifting S40? Post by zipidachimp on 06/02/17 at 14:25:21 I've got one of these, but paid $69 for it. Really, a $20 jack with a block of wood works fine. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200641744_200641744 8-) |
