As the title says... how to remove burned plastic fiber from chrome exhaust?

I had some on mine also the only way I could get it off was to use a razor blade, took it off with out a scratch. Just get the blade almost even with the muffler, did mine cold.

Brass , and some careful shaping,
Brass brushes don't mess up chrome. We had to clean paint from bumpers before they were plastic..

Outcome is 100% dependent on skill.

Ohhhh... Skill is one thing I might be lacking. I'll try the razor blade first! :)

Try MEK it probably will work. Nasty stuff but it won't hurt the chrome.

Oven cleaner works well. Get the pipe warm, spray oven cleaner on a coarse terry cloth rag that is damp with water. Don's spray the oven cleaner on the pipe or toward the bike or in any wind; it's not nice to paint. Let the rag sit on the melted plastic. Scrub with other side of towel. Repeat if needed.

I wouldn't try a razor blade....if it can scratch the chrome as the edge is hardened.

Use something softer than the chrome - but harder that the plastic. The brass brush, a wooden popsicle stick when the pipe is hot and the plastic is soft.....or chrome polish and some rubbing.

Get the exhaust really hot. Put some on a terry cloth rag and scrub away.
Repeat as needed
Do I need to say you should be CAREFUL to not get burned?

And DONT use a microfiber cloth. They are a plastic composite and will just melt right back onto the pipe. How do I know??? :-/

I had plastic melted on mine and personally found that when it was fresh it was stuck WELL. After a few weeks of riding it seemed to have burned some of itself off and as well seemed to be more crispy and flaky and cleaned off easier.

So, if it doesn't come off at first, just ride it a bit and come back and try again another day.

I used a sharpened piece of wood as a chisel, and Goo Gone as I had nothing else at hand! Took me forever, but the plastic is gone. :)

My standby , dish soap ,water ,and crumpled up piece of Reynolds Wrap.It"s softer than chrome and allows you to scrub as hard as you like ,never leaves a scratch.Takes a bit of "elbow grease" but no shopping trip,an no burns from a hot pipe.also takes rust off ,leaving all the chrome behind.Have something harder ,you can pull a nickel out of your pocket to use as a scraper (also softer than chrome).

Sounds good... by Reynolds wrap, I assume you mean aluminum foil?
