Title: Did S40 prices drop?
Post by ihasabike on 05/29/17 at 11:21:47

a few years ago, I purchased a used S40 for over $7000, and I recall that price accorded with the NADA value.  Now I'm looking to sell mine, but I see new S40s are going for just over $5000, and used prices are way down.  What's going on here?

FWIW, bought a new 2015 S40 in Dec 2015 (got a reduced price since it was late in the year), with sales tax, was a smidge over $5k.

(P.S . Checked Craigslist for Colo Springs, 3 Savage/S40's listed, $1600-2000, average mileage  <15,000.)

They've been a little over $5k new for many years now. Out the door they can be had for well under $6k, probably closer to $5k. No nice way to say this, but if you paid $7k for a used Savage, you got hosed. Unless it was a buy-on, get-one thing.

Here in El Paso we had a 2015 sell for $3000 with only 14 miles on it.
He only rode it home from the dealer. I guess he didn't like it. He also owns a Harley or two.

I bought my new 2014 in 2015 for $4000 plus TTL. Less than $4500 out of the door. :)

I've never seen a Suzuki 650 sell for 7k, not even from a dealer.  I dumped 3k on a used 95 just to help a guy out that lost his job, other prices in my area don't go over 4k even for 2015's with extremely low mileage.

I don't know the exchange rate , but S40 is hella pricey in Australia. Upwards of 9000 of their dollars for a Black 2017 S40 and the Orange one was a 1000 less than that. It may have been a motorcycle broker I can't find the site I was on , but wow !

A new one can be had here (in Australia) for 7500 including on road costs. That's about 5.5k in US money. Everything's more expensive here. Something about economies of scale. Factor in the Australian average income is about $80,000 compared with 50,000 in the US and it works out not too bad.

Nonethelss, 7k for a SH Cabbage is too much. Unless Max Hazan was the PO.

Just picked up a 2017 (Black) 6000 out the door Canadian dollars. Lots of low mile used ones around here all seem to want 4500 year does not seem to matter.

I spent the day test riding new Hondas and I think I am going to have to hire an Advocate For The Elderly to negotiate for me. They offered me $2000.00 trade in for my 2013 S40 with 8000 odd miles on it and several hundred dollars in aftermarket accessories. For my like new 2009 Buell Blast with 8000 miles they offered me $600.00. The Blast looks like it just came off of the showroom floor.

I am thinking the young salesman has heard how to rip off old people with driveway sealer and roofing repairs and has found a new avenue.  to a quick buck.

You're ahead selling yourself. You don't get Retail in trade.
But$600.00 is reason to keep something.

Yep, bikesales.com.au is just about the only game in town for ... well ... bike sales, here in Aus. The nearest contender is a site called 'Gumtree'.

The dealers have been clearing new 2016 floor stock for $7500 for a couple of months.

The S40 had been available in Aus for a couple of years. I don't think they sell all that well.

I don't see many around, for sure.

Current NZ retail is $NZ8495 with on road costs of about $NZ 3 to 5 hundred. I feel you could ride away for the $NZ8495 We've had them since the 400 cc model, but you don't see a lot on the road.

Aaaand .... that means there's basically no market here in used parts [ch128533]. Shipping from the States often costs as much as the part.

Islandrd, don't know if you would get parts in this part of the world. but you could Google NZ motorcycle wreckers. I see damaged ones come up on Trademe, our equivalent of EBAY from time to time
