Title: Sizzling noise flywheel Post by KarelVdB on 05/28/17 at 12:23:52 When riding I noticed a sizzling noise from the left side of the engine. When I took the cover off and looked at the flywheel I noticed the 3 screws from the alternator touched the flywheel while driving. They scraped some metal from it. Should I just use other screws? Or is the flywheel placed wrong?? |

Title: Re: Sizzling noise flywheel Post by Dave on 05/30/17 at 04:02:07 If you only had the right side cover off to work on the cam chain tensioner, that should not have done anything to the left side. Did you use a factory paper gasket on the left side? Is the nut that holds the rotor on tight? Did you drop the bike onto the left side and bend the case inward? You are the first one that has ever had this issue that I have seen....something has either caused the cover to move inward, or the rotor to move outward. The position of the crank is controlled by the ball bearing on the right side - so if you took the drive gear off or loosed the nut and didn't get it tight - it is possible the crank could have shifted a bit to the left. |

First I thought it was the belt causing it. So I put on some HD grease... But the noise was still there. When I removed the left cover, there were 2 gaskets places... Strange... When I put one in place, the noise got louder. The screws from the stator pushed harder on the rotor now... When checking the starter clutch, camshaft and crankshaft everything seems normal and thight. Can't detect any free play... On my bike is (as you can see on the photo) inside the rotor a 'goldish' peace of metal where the bolts from the stator scrape to. I compared different photos and technical drawings, but I can't find any that is having the same peace of 'goldish' metal that is in mine... Strange... |

For some reason they thought that extra weight was a good idea. There is no reason to have that, as several of us are taking mass off the flywheel to get better acceleration. |
