Title: Reading weird tire numbers
Post by bradyGOAT on 05/24/17 at 08:04:53

Hey folks,

I'm looking into getting a Kenda K657 front tire. Amazon has the cheapest prices it seems, but the only 100/90-19 they list is 100/90H19. I understand the '-' is supposed to be for the construction (bias/radial). Is the H here referring to the speed rating, but just in the wrong place?

Tire in question: https://www.amazon.com/Kenda-K657-Challenger-Street-Tire/dp/B00570XH1W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495634460&sr=8-1&keywords=kenda%2B100%2F90-19&th=1

Guide I was looking at to decode: http://www.jpcycles.com/how-to-read-motorcycle-tires

I think I found the answer. Here is the official Kenta site. They list it as 100/90H-19. Can someone smarter than me confirm this is fine?

Tje tire will fit on the front wheel of the Savage.

It is rated for speeds up to 130 mph.....How fast are you planning on going? :-?

Haha only cruising <70mph but I read on another post that the k657 is a good choice for the price. They don't have any other speed rating for that model. Should I avoid it and get a tire that relates to the speed I'll most likely be going?

Nope, the Kenda is one of the tires that is on the list of potential tires you can use on the Savage.  The Shinko tires are very comparable in price - my own choice is the Shinko 230 Tourmaster....but it most likely doesn't make a huge difference and the Kenda is an acceptable tire.

Here is a link to the new tire thread.
