Title: Petcocks ever changed over the years? Post by mr.stinker on 05/20/17 at 07:07:45 Sup ya'll After reading up on the petcock situation I have been wondering if Suzuki ever ended up using a different (improved) stock petcock over the years. I have an '09 S4 and have never experienced any issues with petcock as described in previous posts. Any insight is appreciated Thank you for this great site |

Title: Re: Petcocks ever changed over the years? Post by Dave on 05/20/17 at 07:54:23 The same petcock has been used in all years. There are a lot of things that can affect the durability of the stock petcock. How much ethanol or reformulated fuel is used where you live, if your bike is stored in a climate controlled space (heating and AC) - or is in a shed that can get really hot or cold, or if your bike sits outside, and long your bike will sit in storage when winter comes - and if you add a fuel stabilizer when you put the bike away.......etc. When the petcock fails...it can create a lot of weird symptoms that sometimes makes you look for electrical or carb problems - when it is actually the petcock causing the problem. |

The vacuum petcock from Suzuki is really expensive....we suggest you buy a manually operated petcock from a Yamaha Raptor 660. They are reliable....but you will need to remember to turn it off when your ride is done - and turn it on when your ride is beginning. |

I just went to local Yamaha/Suzuki dealer and purchased the Raptor Petcock - just slightly over $30.00 and took less than 1/2 hour to install. Just be sure to plug the vacuum line that runs from the carb to the old petcock. New arrangement is much better and more predictable. I like the old method of shutting off the fuel by myself. !!! |
