IF Trump asked him to end the investigation of Flynn in a manner that clearly was meant to convey "I'm The President and your boss. I don't want this to go any further because if it does, you'll find criminal wrongdoing and that would be bad for me."

It has to be that explicit because as Comey cited when he cleared Hilary of endangering the nation by going through the hassle of setting up her own private server, clear INTENT is required.

if Trump said in passing "I think Michael Flynn is a decent guy and I hope this goes away soon", that doesn't pass the intent threshold.
