Title: Trip to Lancer's Farm
Post by Oldfeller on 05/13/17 at 18:49:24

Might it be a good idea for a Roll Call to wake up those who aren't paying attention that they have a TRIP next week?

Lancer Oklahoma trip    extended to 19-28 May   Lancer,  Kenny G,  MM,  Springman,  Verslagen,  Justin,  Springman's BIL Steve,

So, ROLL CALL boys and girls, just to show you are awake and paying attention.

Somebody might want to post the weather report as at 1 week out it is "fairly" accurate (plus or minus) ......

My plan is to leave Monday the 22nd.    Our church is having Home-Coming Sunday the 21st .   I get to stay till the next Monday after I get there .   ;)     But I'm still waiting to hear from Steve ...

I plan to ride the Savage with the Long Legs on it , the 3.5 gal tank and an extra 1/2 gal in the saddle bag (for back-up) .

So Lancer is it too far for a " one days ride " , even with a good seat and floorboards ?

:-?

I intend to be there. I plan on leaving home Saturday and get to Lancer's either late the same day or if I tire I'll stop for the night and get there Sunday. I'll stay until the following Saturday. I will be bringing my new gun and a bunch of ammo.

Last i spoke with Steve, a week or so ago, he was very anxious for the ride. I guess I am not the only one ready for a vacation.

Yes, I need to be there.
None of my prelaunch tasks have been done and may have to tinker with charging system while I'm there.
I'll arrive on Sunday afternoon. And leave a week later.

Our church is having Home-Coming Sunday the 21st .

Ahhh, Home Coming,, I hope y'all win the game. I can only imagine who a Church plays against. Losing just isn't an option.

Lancer, Versi, MM, I have not had the opportunity to install the kawasaki front pulley that I purchased from Dave. If i bring it with me would one of you be able to assist me with this? Thanks.

I don't see why not, I'm planning on twisting a wrench or 2 too.

Take a tube of the red (permanent) threadlocker with you.....it is important to get the nut on there for good.  The factory threadlocker is red....so that is what I use.  Then bend 2 sides of the locking washer (belts and suspenders!).

SpringMan  , maybe you should text  Steve's phone # to my cell  :-?

from my house to Lancer's is 10 + hours says Google ... a little over 600 miles.
:-[
yea , "a really big day" or two  "small days"

:-/

we both go through Memphis , his ride is 750+ miles.

Last summer I went to the Ok border near Iron Mountain Ak. and it was a full days ride (I was glad to be there).

MM, sending you PM with Steve's info.

Title: Re: Trip to Lancer's Farm
Post by springman on 05/16/17 at 08:14:07

My ride shows to be a little under 500 miles. I have not decided if I am doing it in one day or two. I am leaning towards taking it easy and taking 2 days. I guess it just depends on how early I get started on Saturday and on how tired I get as the day goes by. God willing, I will see you at Lancer's in a few days.

Title: Re: Trip to Lancer's Farm
Post by springman on 05/16/17 at 10:30:04

I am thinking of possibly spending the evening at Cooper Lake state park which is about 300 miles from me and which puts me at about 200 miles from Lancer's. I'm not taking a tent so I'll probably get the screened shelter which is still cheaper than a motel.

Believe it or not. Weather has been absolutely beautiful here for the last 2 weeks or so. Guess what the forecast is for this weekend. I'll give you a hint, it is not for a mild sunny day. Yep, might be getting a bit wet and my new rain gear that arrived last night is a bit on the small side. It'll have to do. ::) ::) ::)

Kawasaki pulley is now on. Fairly simple job. Big issue was how much to grind down the pulley guard. I must have put it on, taken it off, ground off material and repeated at least 8 times. Royal pain in the back side. It does feel a bit different. I will have to see just how far off the speedo is now. :)

Weather next week: highs in the mid-70's to low 80's.
I think we can work with that.

Your long trip will be a bit more relaxing now.....you got "wings"!

It is best to leave the pulley cover a bit dirty....then you can see where the pulley rubs.  The first one does take a little time, after that it becomes easy as you learned which areas are apt to rub a bit.

Traveling prayers headed your way......and for the others as well.

Post by springman on 05/17/17 at 08:17:25

Thanks Dave, all greatly appreciated. By the way, I took a 10 minute or so test drive after installing the pulley to try it and the led bulb. The led bulb is much brighter than my halogen bulb and it is much more light overall but I agree with you that the lighting is not even, it is like bands of bright and not so bright. So far no issue with other vehicles flashing their lights at me. I'll let you know if that changes.

Just a quick update. I am bringing my new plinker. Steve is bringing something also. I understand MM is bringing a plinker. And I understand Lancer has a plinker or 2. Versi, are you bringing something?

It sounds like this is a ride Oldfeller is going to wish he had gone on. I believe he likes to plink almost as much as riding. :D

I forgot to call Steve today.

I did put a new tire on the S-40 today .   The Kenda 673 only had 5,372 miles + 4,850 Km. on it that's only about 8,300 miles.   It was at the bottom of the wear bars.    :P   I remember the Commander II that the Kenda replaced had almost 21,000 miles on it ... so I got another one of them.    ;)

I went to the Dragon and the Knife Store , Tuesday and rode back Wednesday .    Well on the way home I got up to 75-80 mph on the super slab (the GPS recorded 88- but I don't remember that part  ::))  and noticed a little flutter out of the rear tire.    So I looked at the tire good when I got home.   I was surprised it was gone at under 10,000 miles.  :-?

The weather forecast for my area is saying RAIN for Sunday , but great ridding weather for Monday and Tuesday.

MM, I'm really surprised that is all that Kenda tire gave you, but good to know. We have had great weather for a couple of weeks now but rain is supposed to be on its way. Yesterday the forecast was for heavy thunderstorms in Houston for Saturday, but looking at the forecast just now it looks like the rain is now expected for Sunday. I had been considering not leaving until Sunday because of the rain. Well, we'll just see what show's up tomorrow.

Follow the yellow brick road !
There are stop lights  on both Main St and Trudgeon/Holly Rd.,
and they are only about 100 feet apart.
This exit off of I-40 is the Henryetta exit.

Lancer

I'm packing the Savage after Church tomorrow ,   for a early Monday morning start .   Looks like I'll call it a "One day ride" .

I need you to PM your GPS address so I can find ya .

If my rear wears out I'll call ya but doing 600+ miles a day is possible the first day , two days in a role of them might not be ?  Ouch !  ;D

Kenny,

I understand completely, every morning is a struggle.
I have to use gensing and an energy drink every morning just to get moving, and many days that does not work at all.  Hopefully next year we will both be in a good condition.

MM, do you have an old phone ?
It comes up clear for me.

Call me when you get to Henryetta at Braums, and I will get you if need. E.

On I-40 as you top the hill exit right for Henryetta.
There are 2 stop lights in quick succession, turn right at 2nd light.
(Up a steep hill)
That is Holly Rd.  Go 3.3 miles and you will run into a stop sign.
Turn right on to Arbeca Rd, and go 5 miles to another stop sign.
Turn left on to Magnolia Rd. and go about 0.3 miles.
Turn right on to S. 265 Rd. (Dirt/gravel road, and there is a street sign)and go 1/4 mile, you will run into a steel gate.  Look to your left at the rock house... you are here !

The stop signs noted are the ONLY stop signs you will find.
Just follow the directions.

No road accidents or maintenance problems; we even stopped to visit with mama after we had breakfast at the Classic Dinner.
