Nice bike.  When I was about 12 or 13 yrs old I wanted one of those in a bad way.  The only MC dealer in town sold BMW's and various Italian bikes.  The twin cylinder BMW's were too expensive for a kid to even think about so I used to go in a droll over the 250 single, an R26 I believe. Japanese bikes were not available then so kids wanting small displacement bikes had a choice of various European bikes and the Harley Hummer.  By the time I went to college I had owned one of about everything small including the Hummer but never did get my BMW single.  In college I rode British twins until I graduated and then I finally bought a car.

It sure is a classic , but if we are talking motorcycle porn the Norton Manx is my favorite centerfold !

One of the bikes I learned to ride on was one of these:

http://https://img.scoop.it/N0PeMHMI7TE0hPQ_20T3Yzl72eJkfbmt4t8yenImKBVvK0kTmF0xjctABnaLJIm9

which is a 1964 Ducati Monza with a right hand shifter since it was developed to be a board track racer. It wouldn't go faster than about 50 but it was fun doing it.  8-)

Ok the Matchless and the AJS qualify as motorcycle porn XXX

The Ducati singles too , they also had a 450 single

The Royal Enfield also sold as a Indian are just as cool

And let's not forget the BSA Goldstar !

I have been a hard core thumper fan for over 40 years , love them all !

No better feeling than thumping down some back road !

I do like the Matchless and AJS bikes......classy!

They however would seem a bit primitive compared to the modern bikes, and likely to vibrate a whole lot more.

I sure would like to be able to find a Suzuki Tempter and bring it into the US.

Two thoughts:

1. That Matchless G80RR is pure awesomeness.

2. Dave, this is an international forum. We should start a thread about importing the Tempter. How much do they sell for? Are some years more desirable then others? What are crating and shipping fees? How do we license them in our states? OK...I'll do it....

I have found very little about the Tempter......it may have only been available in the Asian markets.  I don't even know what years it was made.

oh cool! thanks!
so it's 23.622" long by 5.11811" high without the Fishtail. the fishtail seems to be about 9" long.
How long is the stock muffler?
They don't show the size for the inlet pipe.
I wonder how difficult fabricating a suitable hanger will be?
I'd hate to be seen as a fashion victim but I really like the look of this. Do I want to put the work into making it fit? Hmmmmm...

Tempter is a 400cc ?
I would like to have one and build it a very special 695cc engine for it, ya know , no holding back , let out all the stops kinda build , really throw some some cash at it !
Big Bore Tempter , yeah the BBT !

So, I'm confused about that BSA muffler. The site reads - BSA Empire Star Silencer, Fishtail, 2 Clips 1 7/8" 1937-38

I see the 1 7/8" in there but is that just the size of the clamps?

Looks like a reducer will be necessary to adapt it to my header.

Good point. I also wonder if there will be enough back pressure for the engine to run properly.

In Italy that was known either as the Ducati Monza (tourer) or the Diana (racier tourer) Mark I, II, III - in 90, 125, 175 and 250cc format

Right foot shift has nothing to do with dirt/board trackers, it was the traditional gear lever position in European bikes (and 1950's HD Sportsters too) up until the japanese invaded.

The "pullback bar" version, known as "Americano" wa also sold - but only to old gents with back pains  ;D

Odd how you should claim it would only do 50mph... as the 250cc was rated at 140kmh (88mph)

Unfortunately the Bison 2000 had a good machinist/mechanic build the engine - but the frame/wheels/seat proportions are a disaster.

Although an engine that big would be a bit difficult to work with.

With no counterbalancer......I can imagine that thing shakes like crazy!

So how big would the crank-shaft be on a Bison 2000 .  ?   ::)

I thought 650 cc is almost too big for ONE CYLINDER ...  500 seems about right .   or    a down tuned 650 !  ;) ;)

For a motorcycle you are probably correct - the radial airplane engine had to make a lot of torque at low rpm so it could spin a 4 bladed propeller that was 18 feet in diameter!

As immense as the Bison 2,0000 is - it most probably is very slow....but given enough traction it might be able to pull a plow!

they showed a diesel being started. primed each cylinder with a squirt. put the hand crank on even with the bumper, put his foot on it and gave it a shove and it started right up.

Here's one to cleanse the palate after that Daystar.
I was vacationing in San Diego a while back.  Lots of exotic car showrooms in La Jolla.  Nestled among them was this little dealer/showroom with classic cars and bikes (mostly).  Two Moto Guzzis and a BMW sitting in the window were beautiful.  Pardon the glare of the glass.
And I know the beemer isn't a thumper, but it's cool.

W650 is pretty, alright but it's not a thumper.

Yeah, I know it.  I remember a couple forum members commenting on it so I put up the post.

Best regards,

Just came across this bad-boy on Pinterest. I'm not normally a fan of trackers ... but I would ride the hell outta this!

Honda Megapro (GL200)

I grew up around most of that stuff. Sure brings back some wonderful memories.

In the army all I had to play with was the Matchless G3L and sometimes the Triumph 350 sidevalve twin, can't remember the correct designation.

I always liked this knucklehead single image. While not a "bike" I would be very curious to see what this could have been. Would it go pot pot pot pot or ato ato ato?

Although not a Knucklehead....the Buell Blast engine was half a Harley.
