Title: Need to bend the rear brake lever...
Post by George Palickar on 05/01/17 at 17:57:57

The Rear brake lever is a bit bent up, kinda messing with the position a bit.  I need to lift my foot off the peg a bit much, and I want to get new foot pegs.  The ones made for our bike look nice....  drzcustoms on ebay... but since they are a bit smaller, I will need to modify the lever.  A friend said I should put it in a vice, heat it up with a regular propane torch, and use big pliers.   Any other ideas?

there's a adjustment screw on the back of the plate you can adjust the pedal to any height.

It takes a hellovalot to bend that pedal.
So unless you've run into a brick wall, I doubt it.

BM is right, there's a level screw on the backside of the plate.
Loosen the rear cable too.

Thanks!  I don't  have a cycle lift, so I must have missed the adjustment screw.  The PO was side swiped by a car, and the bike was dropped on the right side.  Lotsa stuff was bent / smooshed, and I am just taking one thing at a time.

Thanks again!

Now I see.  The rear pedal adjuster was smooshed flat against the controls plate, and the screw was pretzeled up in there too.  Had to bang out the adjuster flange with a metal rod and hammer, and dremel / vice grip the screw out.  Got a new one with nuts at Lowes, and I'm all good now!

Is it just me, or do alot of you fellas work on the bike twice as much as you ride it?  I guess I am restoring a long term sitter that was dropped though...
:P

Not all bikes are reasonably cared for.
You buy one that needs some love, and add the necessary remedies for the bikes few shortcomings, and you can spend some time getting one sorted out.

Once you address it's needs, you get to ride a long time without wrenching, but it's best to go through the entire bike before hitting the road because breakdowns ruin your day.
