Title: Piezo Blinker Bulb? Will it work?
Post by stewmills on 04/27/17 at 12:04:00

Many of us have performed the mod to add either a piezo or LED indicator to remind us our turn signals are on.  Instead of doing the mod/hack into the relay, would this bulb work if placed in a rear socket?  Couldn't use in the front because it runs all if the time. Could only see using this in the rear where it beeps at each "blink" of the rear signal.

The light is made to go into a back up light.....so when the power is on, the light stays on continuously and the alarm alternates on/off.  I don't know what it would do if you put it in the turn signal where the power goes on/off to make the light blink (and you would need one bulb for each rear turn signal).

Well darn. I didn't think about it like that but I understand now...its for the clear back-up light fixture on a vehicle that is always on while in reverse, not intermittent.

Case closed  :-/

I'm not sure the bulb would fit in the signal housing.  Another option might be a flasher unit with the beeper built in, if they make the right size for our bike.  :-/ Something like this...

SALB, good find and I see their approach but probably not money I would spend.

I have an LED indicator on my bars that is hacked into the flasher relay and it works pretty well. If I ever did anything else (in the absence of another cheap option) I would just add a piezo to my current wiring.  Just thought that if that bulb was a solution it would be a really cool thing for a lot of people here.

Stew,

I added two of the Piezo Beepers to my LED Pilot Light  Circuit. I can hear the beepers at very low speed with my helmet on and hopefully remember to look at the LED Blinker so I remember to cancel the turn signals soon after the turn.

Age is not user friendly....

Thanks, Kenny.  I have debated getting a piezo to add to mine, but like most things I just haven't gotten around to it.  When you purchased your piezo, did you have to shop for a certain type or voltage?  I may tinker around and add one someday.

Stew,

I am not sure about voltage. I bought a package of 5 of them from Amazon or one of the Chinese direct merchants they were cheap. I cannot imagine that they make them in more than one voltage.

Do you remember what dB (decibel) rating yours are? If you can barely hear yours I would want to step it up a notch  ;)

SALB:  The 552LL would work - you would likely just have to cut off the stock wiring connector and crimp in 2 spade terminals to connect to the flasher.  (The 552 would most likely work as well - but it is a thermal flasher and depends on the resistance of the bulbs to set the flasher rate......and if anyone converted to LED turn signals it would not work).

Stew,

I don't remember the decibel count. The reason that I put two buzzers on was one was not loud enough.
