Title: She made me walk back home... Post by Andreas on 04/23/17 at 11:23:50 Hi guys. Winter is coming to its end here and I started working on my bike in order to enjoy some nice Spring rides. 1. Battery fully charged overnight. 2. New spark plug 3. Oil and oil filter replaced 4. Remove fuel tank and drain it completely. Fresh fuel added back 5. Check tyre pressure and brakes After a few starting attemps and she fired up nicely! Rev up and then let it idle a bit. Everything looked ok. I thought it would be a good idea to go for a short ride. You know, the trial ride... Just after a couple of miles, she died! :( I tried firing up again. She started ok but after a few seconds there you go again. I tried that a few times more. Everytime she was starting ok and then diying. And this is where the title of the topic comes in place... I had to walk back home. Now she rests in my garage and I don't know where to start. Any suggestions? |

I had a conversation here with you concluding that it was faulty and needed to be replaced. The new one was purchased from the local Suzuki dealer. To tell the truth, I haven't use the bike after the replacement. Is this of any relevance to my problem? |

Post by batman on 04/23/17 at 21:13:13 You didn't drain the tank in fall or the carb either? did you use sta-bil ?If not it might be time to clean the carb.If you only road a couple of miles and it started a few times I wouldn't expect the alternator to be the problem,but you should have tested the output after install.It may not be so much that she made you walk as it is that you made her die on the side of the road.You have compression and spark ,that leaves fuel. |

Post by Andreas on 04/24/17 at 04:11:41 I haven't done any of these... :-/ I thought that it would be a good idea to leave fuel in the system, just to prevent corrosion and/or moisture penetrating my tank and the carb. Well noted that. So the best place to start is the carb. I'll do that in the weekend. Thanks. |

If you carb has the drain screw on the float bowl - connect a piece of tubing to the nipple on the bottom of the float bowl, and open up the screw a bit and turn the petcock on. Check to see that you are getting fuel flow to the float bowl. |

Post by Andreas on 04/24/17 at 13:41:38 Wow, thanks guys for the replies! @Dave I suppose that you are describing something like a fluid level indicator, in order to check that fuel is making it in the carb bowl. Right? @verslagen I haven't remove anything from the petcock. If I remember correctly there are two filter tubing. One for normal and one for reserve. Actually I don't have a fuel filter and I think that I should be getting one. @justin Sorry but I didn't get that. What exactly do you mean? |

I just want you to prove that fuel will flow out of the bottom of the carb if you open the drain screw (the tubing suggestion was so that the fuel didn't flow out onto the engine and floor while you let the carb drain for half a minute to prove that the petcock flows fuel). |

Exactly the same behavior. Tonight, I will try confirming the fuel issue and let you know. |
