Title: Maybe I'll drive next time
Post by Ruttly on 04/22/17 at 21:28:00

Out for my day off ride , heading towards the hills thought I should stop and order some Suzuki parts , so I stop at the stealership. As soon as I pull in I realized my mistake. As I'm pulling my helmet off I hear "hey check that out" , "is that a cafe racer" , "what is it" . So I answer like fifty questions and go inside order my parts. On my way out I cruise thru the new bikes, odd no sales people. Go outside the entire sales staff is standing around the tracker , answer another fifty questions. Only one person knew what the engine was, but no one knew what a RYCA was. What used to be cool has become a PITA , 50 minutes later I got on my way. Maybe I'll drive next time !

Yep....sometimes the attention is cool - sometimes it just makes a short trip take a lot longer.

The funny thing is that you can go to some bike events that tend to cater to V-Twins......and your bike will hardly get a look.

Your right there was only 2 people standing by it when I came out of the H/D stealership.
Still had a killer ride, short freeway section, thru the hills on 2 different passes on dry roads , no rain , nice cool overcast day.
My soul has been healed , big fun !

I was with Dave and MM last year at the Dragon and I swear Dave hadn't turned his engine off before people started walking over to his bike. Definitely gets attention but it has to get old fast.

Some days I don't feel very social, I think that was it ! Most of the time I don't mind , just wanted to ride not talk. I will ride the sportster when I know I will be stopping at a bike shop , no one looks twice at a Harley anymore  ;D

Once you know where to look to see the leaks, the fun is gone.

Sportster has never leaked a drop in twelve years , maybe it's due for a spill !

You have to have fun!walk up and tell them you only have time to answer three questions about the bike. When they first ask what it is ,say ,Motorcycle, when they ask again say, thumper, when they ask again say ,Savage ,then say I've got to go now ,I think I hear my mother calling me.

That is not something you do right now.....that is what they made "winter" for!

I was tuning all winter , I was tuning that day I got caught in the hail / lightning / rain storm. No worries the Sportster is begging for some attention. I won't miss a chance to ride. But I will miss the tracker , screw the cool factor , it's just a blast to ride , good power , great front brake and if the turn had 2 bucks of pennies dumped on the road I could pick a line thru them.  Had a squirrel run out and stand up and freeze , eased out a bit pulled it thru the turn , when I looked back he was still standing , he waved at me as if he was saying thanks !  ;D
Well the first part is true ! Bet I missed him by inches !
