Title: New Heads Up Display
Post by Dave on 04/20/17 at 07:23:27

I had this pop up in an advertising window.

I don't put money down to reserve products that are not on the market, as recently there were some folks scammed out of their money on a new helmet with a lot of electronic gadgets.

But someday this may be an affordable upgrade and you won't have to look thingy your head downward to see the speedo on your fuel tank anymore.  I wonder if manufacturers will stop putting gauges on the bike - and just give you one of these to stick on your helmet?

Whatever if I wear a half helmet and WWI flying goggles?
What if I'm blind in the right eye?
I'm probably gonna want my speedo , regardless of how much thingy gazing it requires.

You should not include "speedo" and "thingy gazing" in the same sentence.  It can cause the wrong mental image....and a bit of a gag reflex to occur.

I'd gag if a guy Other than myself was looking.
But, I get what you are saying. I should be aware that there Are others who are looking for a way to make someone else see just how Wrong something like that can look.
How about you focus on solving problems and I will hone my skills at causing them, huhh? I don't need too much competition.

A Heads Up Display can be a very handy thing to have on a bike.
They have been around for decades in the military.

Dude, I Talk the Talk, but if Speedos are part of the equation, I just don't think I can walk the walk. I doubt I could stand up, much less walk.

I think the motorcycle riding Presbyopian Society of Aging Americans will have a difficult time with this. We are already struggling with Iphones, Ipads and cameras. Why doesn't someone invent a cure for bad/deteriorating eyesight?

When I ride I ride , screw all the tronics you guys have strapped on. Me and the bike , you can feel/hear rpms , you know if your speeding. I don't look at the speedo unless I'm doing a hard pull or there's a cop on my butt and let's hope both of those don't happen at the same time ! Older now reaction times have slowed , I don't need any distractions. Play with the iPhone when the ride is over. Being hyper aware while riding a rush and I like it no phones , music , gps , tachs, speedos , heads up display , just me and the bike and the road. Well I got my new grips on what a great excuse to go for a ride.  :o

A speedometer that's not between my knees, and not having to pull my cell out of my jacket to check the time would make this beneficial to me.  The tach would be an added bonus, if just to check idle speed and cruise RPM.  The real question is how much is this going to cost, and how involved will it be linking it to my bike. :-? :-/

Hmmm. I wonder if you had two different bikes set up, if you could jump from one to the other and still have the display on your helmet work? ::)

The helmet display is good. You don't need music or phone calls on a bike.

I think the heads up Navigation would be nice....it appears that the sample display shows that you need to turn in 1.3 miles, that the speed limit is 45 and you are going 49, and it shows the name of the road you are on.

Maybe it could operate the throttle , shifter & brakes too ! ;D

Much more fun to be totally lost , all the cool things you find and all those awsome back roads that need to be found. Heads up screen gonna show you all that ?

You guys are kidding,,,,right???
I'm with Ruttly, I ride to get away from all that krap!
I guess the next step is to include all your ''social networks'' and voice texting!!! And I want to watch cat videos too!
Give me a break! I just mounted my new gps speedo and it is up where it's in the bottom of my glasses frame without moving from my normal view, turn blinkers too. I can see the road, my speed, and blinkers all in normal riding ''mode''. ( no more 15 mile runs with the turn signal on)
If bikes were built, or modded more for function insted of ''style'', we would not need all that stuff.
That said, I'm still waiting in line, and holding my breath  for my self- driving car!,,,,,,,,NOT!

Bad wolf , What GPS speedo did you get? I got a very plain looking analog style GPS speedo from Legendary Motorcycles. More for the odometer so I can accurately figure fuel consumption, mpg, distance I can cover on a full tank to reserve, reserve to pushing. Haven't yet installed it. I am also relocating idiot lights to the new speedo , off the top of the RYCA tank. Relocating ignition switch off the tank nearer to battery box & add a neutral light near speedo , no more looking down. Last 73 mile ride the last 40 with turn signal on ! ;D ;D ;D

I splurged and got a Speedhut 4'' - 0 - 80 mph, 270 degree. $300 but I can now read it quick, and the numbers aren't so close together you have to squint. Has 0-60 timer, elevation, 1/4 mile time & speed, trip odo, max speed, and even a clock! And the cool part is I got blue lighting. Now I've got the ''blues'' whenever I ride at night.
I should add it only shows speed, odo, and one of the others at a time.

Yeah mine does all that too but 0-120mph 3 3/8" backlit face and the needle lights up too. $340 with the mount. High beam and turn signal indicators but no neutral light. Might be adding a fly screen to hide it behind , maybe not for sure yet , it might look weird on a street tracker !

Oh yeah single button operation for dummies like me !

Just looked up the speed hut speedo same as mine just under a different name !

Post by badwolf on 05/18/17 at 20:46:09

I mounted mine above the handlebar clamps, I have the bottom of the windshield panted black anyway.
As far as 80 or 120 mph, mine is a bagger, I don't ride ''fast'' anymore.

I recall Dave telling me that. He also said its not moisture proof ! I'm going to seal the plugs and area where wires come out the back with some black silicone. Maybe slip a optically perfect ziplock baggy over it for inclement weather ;D
