Title: Re: November 12, 1955 Post by DieselBob on 03/10/17 at 15:38:25 While the subject line date of November 12, 1955 is close, I would argue it should be February 19, 1955. The reason being that the the whole "flux capacitor" term has it origins in the much-publicized crash of TWA Flight 260 that crashed into the Sandia Mountains east of Albuquerque on November 19, 1955. The cause was ultimately attributed to a faulty "fluxgate compass" (after much controversy and numerous investigation revisions by the CAB). I hiked to the sight of the crash a few years ago. It's about 9,000 feet up in a canyon where the remains fell following the impact with a sheer face of rock. The only thing puzzling to me was the presence of 3 engines when the Martin 4-0-4 is a 2 engine bird. More than you wanted to know I'm sure. But all in the interest of cinematic trivia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TWA_Flight_260 |
