Title: 1" grips
Post by Ruttly on 02/26/17 at 09:47:01

Finally found some 1" grips I like the Biltwell Thruster grips. Much like a dirt bike grip not like all those weird Harley grips made of metal. Just a normal grip with flange. 18 bucks free shipping !

Ruttly ,   Getting the right grips is a great thing. Many riders just conform to whatever is on the bars. Me, I hate foam grips.  The best grips I had was from a company in the U.S. that stopped making them about 3 years ago. I forgot their name, but think it started with a J .  I will never pay over $25. for a pair, and that's on the high side.

RYCA supplied coke bottle type grips , hated them. Tried the Kung Fu grips ok but diameter too big. Not a big selection of good 1" grips. So I was happy to find these. At a fair price too ! Just wanted to share my find with others looking for grips !i

I got a set of those.  Have not used them yet, but they look promising.

Ruttly,

With the Biltwell Grips did you use the stock Suzuki Throttle Assembly?

I have Bitwell Recoils on mine. I used the stock throttle assembly. when you peel off the stock grip the throttle assembly has raised areas that fit into the groove on the stock rubber grip. I used my dremmel and ground these down so that the stock throttle was smooth. No issues. Follow the instructions on Bitwell and use WD-40 and once it dries they are very solid. easy exchange.

I've been looking for 1" gel grips with an open end for bar end mirrors. I've come to the conclusion that they don't exist. It's nice to get grips that have an open end because it's reinforced and doesn't fray over time. I'm currently using the Gran Turismo grips from RYCA. They look terrible and feel like plastic because...well...they are plastic.

If anyone comes across 1" gel grips with an open end, please let me know. Otherwise I'll do my best to cut out a pair of Biltwell's because they do look comfortable.

How long did it take to dry ?
I wonder if that works on other grips too ?

My Triumph Bonneville has 1" grips that are open ended. They are not gel but are very good quality rubber. It would be no problem to fit them to the Suzuki. My Bonnie is a 2005 model but I think they used the same grips for a few years.

When fitting I use washing up liquid, they slide right on and when the soap dries they are very secure. I have had them off a few times trying different bars and bar end mirrors.

The wd40 dries over night. I think that liquid soap option is also effective. The Bitwell grips are very soft rubber. However they are upfront on the fact that the softness makes them wear out quicker but then they are only about $18.00 a pair.

I think the Bitwells would be very easy to open up for bar end mirrors.

I recently purchased the BCB mirrors in black, I like the low profile and the black kinda disappears. they are of good quality and seem not to vibrate anymore than stock ones do.

Hair spray is works great too, but since I don't live with my mom anymore and my wife doesn't use it., I don't have any in the house.

I got the Thrusters installed on my bike along with an LSL 1" tracker bar and I really like them.  I've only had a few short rides, but I think they will be perfect.  Not to big, not too hard, not too soft, just right.

Canned spray paint works well to install grips.  Just one or two quick blasts.
