Title: Machine screw size.
Post by Papa Bear on 02/14/17 at 18:51:34

On my 2011, the pillion seat backrest is held on by 2 Phillips head machine screws in the back.
Does anyone know what metric size/pitch they are?

I got one of these back bags and I'd like to mount it using longer backrest screws if I knew the size.

Thanks in advance.

PB take the screw to the store ,hit the metrics find a screw the same diameter ,hold the threads together ,if you don't see any light ,try a nut on each ,if  it fits ,buy the length you need,or you could buy a thread pitch gauge.

the Ace hardware stores have SAE and metric test stations to determine the size and thread pitch of stuff you bring in.  Basically threaded studs and nuts mounted on a board.  Ace also has the best selection of fasteners; at least in my area.

I have had a heck of a time getting metric fasteners in my town.
I was at a meeting in another town this morning and went to their lumber centre which has one of those boards with SAE/Metric bolts/nuts.

The fastener I needed is a M5 .08 thread so I purchased 2 longer bolts with washers and came home to mount my new rear bag.

I think it turned out quite well. Solid as a rock and lookin' good.

Be sure to check out McMaster-Carr - it has everything!!  And . . . the online connection (mcarr.com) is a very easy to maneuver source to find literally most anything you want!  Also, very reliable and trustworthy.
