It looks like the US is proposing to put a 100% tariff on 51-500cc bikes that are brought into the US. That is a pretty small portion of the motorcycle market.....and likely will never have any affect on an old guy like me - unless they start to include bigger bikes later on. Most tiny bikes are already 49cc to avoid any license requirements - and most builders could bump most of their motorcycles up to 501cc without too much trouble. The real tragedy would be that the 125cc, 250cc, 400 cc bikes would most likely disappear, as they are already a bit overpriced. I haven't read the article yet to see if if applies to the dirt bike market - it would suffer the most as those bikes are all in the 51cc to 500cc size.

I saw this on another forum - but the cool thing is they have a Suzuki advertisement that has a blue S40!

Evidently it is not Japanese bikes....just ones made in areas that boycott US beef.

The asking price for used Trials motorcycles just got expensive (Sherco, Scorpa, GasGas, Montesa, Beta, Fantic).

I'm a member of the AMA and I used their contact site to let all three of my Federal reps know that I thought it was a stupid idea.

Relax,it's Not Forever. It's a ploy. If they won't buy from us,we make it hard for them to sell here..They change their policy, the tariff is gone..

Just how long will it take before they decide to drop the embargo on our beef? Nobody is about to spend the money to build manufacturing that would only fill a very small and very temporary segment of the market.

LOL, am really looking forward to test driving one, except there have not been any on the floor of any dealers around here as of yet.
Middle of 2017 is supposed to be sales date... hope they keep it.

Just what I was thinking old_rider. But it is made in India and will ship from India so maybe it won't count. The only thing German about it is the badge and the engineering. I'm also looking forward to seeing one.

The Germans' like American Beef don't they ? :-?

I'm OK with the price of BEEF going up a little , I might be able to afford a trip to Bike-Week again !
