Title: Ikea's Sladda bicycle
Post by Tocsik on 01/18/17 at 06:48:16

Came across an article that Ikea starting selling their bike in the US now.  It's certainly not for everyone and not much of a "looker".  I thought I would bring it up because it's a pretty cool concept and the trailer makes it a cool cargo bike.

It's about $400.  Aluminum frame with 2 coats of "lacquer" (?) and weighs 33 pounds.  Front disc brake.  BELT DRIVE!!
25 year warranty on the frame and 10 year warranty on the belt drive.
That's already a really good deal.
They sell a sweet trailer to be pulled behind the bike for $130.
Check it out:  http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30326728/

That front rack would make a real nice rear carrier on the back of the savage.   :)

Funny you should think that, Dave.  I posted this on a scooter forum I still visit occasionally for the same reason!

You've posted enough here that we all know what you're thinking before you do.

Trailer hitch looks like it only makes left turns
But I like it put the chihuahua in the front and wife in the trailer and pedal like hell , I might lose a few pounds!  ;D

Well that top bar doesn't look like a boys bike, and it doesn't look like a girls bike.....it must be "trans-gender". :-?

Naw, make the wife pedal, you hang in the back with a 6 pack.
Every once in a while give the rat a squeeze so it'll bark and motivate the significant other.

I Had to get to the exit.. I won't be seen in Ikea..

I won't be trading my Diamondback in for this anytime soon. In fact I doubt I'd find any modern bike that will hold up as good as this one has.

I've been twice to their city-sized store here in Denver when my kids were going off to college.  Hated it both times. But then, I'm not much of a shopper and consider their furniture poorly built.   That said, this bike is interesting with the disc brake, belt drive and trailer.

About 3 cases (24 12 oz bottles) based on the 49kg weight limit.

I have a lot of Ikea furniture in my house. Like many other places, they have varying levels of quality depending on the price. A lot of it also comes down to looking at quality vs price.

Are their kitchen cabinets as good as an all out full hardwood custom cabinet? No. Are they better than the majority of the stuff that you can get from Home Depot? Absolutely. Ikea also has some very ingenious engineering and layout that optimizes space on just about everything too. They are also very good at making sure that they have things universally sized so that they can re-use the same hardware across multiple lines.
