Title: Some Like it Hot
Post by philthymike on 01/14/17 at 09:28:58

Rode Thumpy to work yesterday. Mid 40's and sunny out going in so it wasn't too bad. Coming home after dark was another story. A wind with a biting chill kicked in that went right through my layers at 70 mph.

There's plenty of warming remedies when coming home from a cold ride. Hot chocolate, wine, moonshine etc.
But if you want to bring the heat hit the hot sauce bottle!

Here are a few of my favorites.

Zombie Repellent - Seriously HOT heat, smells like crotch but luckily doesn't taste like it.

Acid Rain - Reminds me of the gas chamber during Navy basic training.  :'(
put in a squirt bottle and use it for mace.

Autumn Spice - Really nice one from NJ. Really tasty goes with everything. Gonna stock this one regular from now on

Texas Hold-em - Mango Scotch Bonnet combo is unique with some heat too. Great on fish tacos.

Bee Sting - Real sweet with heat. Nice on chicken wings

Hot Dinosaur Snot - Flavorful, mild, goes nice with most foods

Mango Meltdown - A local restaurant uses this on their award winning wings. Delicious and has some kick.

Dia De Los Muertos - Very mild. The bomb on steak. Possibly one of the best steak sauces I've had.

Sriracha - You know it already. Good on anything.

Tapatio - Best for eggs and tacos.

Anybody else got some favorites??

If you you happen to be in Boise in August, stop by one of the four Flying Pie Pizzerias and try a Habanero Pizza, as seen on Man vs. Food.

Best regards,

Louisiana hot sauce is what you use to put out the flames when you try the other stuff.

'NDUJA (pronounced 'n dòo ya)

http://www.saporiantichi.net/images/prodotti/15.jpghttp://www.eternisaporidicalabria.com/images/bombettascheda.jpghttp://www.prezzonesto.it/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/nduja-calabrese-1.jpg

It's a spread or a hot sausage made ONLY with ground chili peppers, olive oil and a little bit of ground pork meat and pork fat.

http://www.nduja.info/en/

Traditionally it was a "poor man's winter sausage", and you would slice it or spread it on bread.

It goes down wonderfully with chilled White wine. Red wine and hot chili peppers is a no-no, as the wine becomes bitter  :P

Southern Italy has made hot cuisine a culture and an integral part of its own Heritage.

If you're getting air through the clothes, put your rain gear on.

Rode last Thursday when it was 28F and no heated gear. Sushi with an ample portion of wasabi seemed to fortify my 3M riding gloves and insulated Suzuki riding jacket until I made it home. Then I had some single malt scotch and went to bed.

I love Wasabi! It'll blow your head off and make you lose your breath and then it's over. It doesn't stay on your tongue for a while like hot peppers.

I'm with Kris ,horseradish is some thing else that doesn't make you live with it forever.

I'll CALL you Sally..
But I see no reason or need for slapping you.
I've read what you have to say.

hey old.indian. I wish I could make that fiery foods festival. sounds like good times!

I'm gonna look up that Mae Ploi Thai Chili Sauce Rodger

Hey Ruttly I've tried Toxic Waste and pussed out. It was disgustingly hot. That Acid Rain is in the same arena with it's 6 types of peppers. I'm only occasionally brave enough for it.

NDUJA looks interesting mpescatori. I'm gonna have to find some.

I'm a huge fan of horseradish and wasabi too!

Finally found a use for Acid Rain besides personal protection weapon.
Mix it in the ratio of 4-5 drops per tablespoon of cocktail sauce. Dip some shrimp and enjoy the zesty taste it its 6 different peppers. When you take the heat of it down with something you can actually taste the mix of peppers instead of your face melting and it is really quite good!

Mike I only tried it and then gave it away ! My stomach won't tolerate anything too hot anymore , I love it but just can't deal it anymore.
But you have at it until you insides come out your backside ! :-[

Springman, Me and you would get along just fine. Patron Silver/Blanco is my favorite , goes down nice and still has a kick , not too smooth ! I've been drinking Mexicos finest long before it became trendy!
Cheers !

Same here Ruttly. I just happen to be out of the Patron silver at this time. But yes, Patron is good though some of those other on the table are even better. Azulejos both reposado and anejo are superb and so is Don Julio. Yes, I like my tequilas (and margaritas). 8-)

Went hot sauce shopping again. I wanted to re-up on Bee Sting and Mango Meltdown as I've decided these are going to be constants in my house from now. They are both that good. Much to my dismay the store didn't have the original Maui Pepper Co. Mango Meltdown. Instead they have that brand's Mango Meltdown X-TREME HEAT. I'm always leary of anything with the word X-treme in the name. But I bough it anyway and you know something? It's even better than the original! What a surprise considering I thought nothing could be better.
This version isn't really hotter by much from the original. The main difference I taste is more of the pepper flavor. It's more balanced between mango and pepper now. I'm pretty pleased with it.

Tried a new one too. Blind Betty's Blind in the Rind sauce. It's orange and lemon with mild habanero. Not much heat but very flavorful and works well with Asian dishes such as Orange Chicken.

So if you can find it don't be afraid of the X-Treme in the name, the new Mango Meltdown is actually better than the original and definitely a keeper!

I've a fondness for Iguana brand Radioactive, it's a habenaro based sauce not excessively hot with a good flavor. Melinda's makes a good black label  3X sauce and if you ever spot a bottle of Melinda's Ghost Pepper sauce get it and use it with care.
I used to grow horse radish and eat it fresh out of the garden, man would it clear out the sinuses and make my eyes water.
