Just read that the average income for R9T buyers is in the $150-175K range, and that 10% of them are first time bike buyers.

Yes, one very common asset among the members or this forum, is that we tend to be somewhat frugal.  What other forum chooses to adopt bikes that are so primitive and affordable, and recommends $50-$60 Shinko tires as the best choice for bikers on a budget?

I would really like to have a BMW motorcycle someday (R 1200 RT) - but in reality that will likely never happen, as I am not in that higher income bracket, and I just cannot divert that kind of play money to an expensive motorcycle.

Instead....I enjoy riding and tinkering with my 30HP mistress! (I have given her jug an augmentation!) :)

Dave , I think we all would like to spend a years salary on a bike without being tossed to the streets by our wives. I could buy some fancy high tech bike but I don't. For me it's a little more primal, like cooking meat on a stick over a fire and a air cooled big single takes me back in time. One cylinder, one carb & big exhaust gets it for me. Simplicity , oh yeah !
What a thrill when you built it and now you riding it , so rewarding , so much freakin fun ! I know I'm sick !

Three years ago I had A 2009 Savage, 1999 1100 ACE Honda, 2002 HD 1200 Sportster and a 2015 Triumph Bonneville. Got a wild hair and sold them all.

Today I own a 2005 Suzuki Savage. Works for me. Only one I wanted to replace.

Sorry 2012 Bonneville.

As with all projects, I'm still at it... :-[ "Maintenance" morphs into "upgrades" and "head scratching" into "changes / modifications"....... Front forks and brake... Yup... Now I'm in the process of converting to a chain....  (Although I'll keep the belt and pulleys on the shelf for a while.)   As the Goldwing rider told his passenger... "THAT'S Old School"... 8-)

Yeah, but all it really does is take you from point A to point B and lose half it's value in 3 years. Think of all the cheap beer you can buy with that. ;D

I would love to have a Ducati Scrambler, but even that I feel is a bit too much for me for a non necessity. It is nice to dream though.

Yeah not many new bikes appeal to me but I can see myself riding a Ducati Scrambler !

Personally, I'm quite fond of big jugs, so round and fully packed.

I see my bikes like the old work truck.  Why spend tons of money if you're going to hack it or use it all up.  That said, I wouldn't mind having a KLR650 and a 2wd Ural sidecar.  Oh, and something besides a carport to park them in.

Put up some studs and enclose your carport.
Its not hard to do.

;D ;D ;D

The KLR and Ural would be more for camping,  the washboards on some of the Forest Service roads would rattle my poor S40 apart in no time.  As for the carport, I live in a Condo, and the HOA would have some serious objections.  Hopefully, in the next couple of years, I can buy something with an actual heated garage were I can work. ;)

Each place MUST look same,  deviation Not allowed, deviation not Necessary...

Get a Moto Guzzi.  I'm pretty sure BMWs Started Out as Guzzis, but they got old and the big jugs, so round and fully packed, sagged.

Just let them know that the garage you are building will be passed on to them at no cost, and the improved property will be able to be rented for $100 more than previously charged. [ch128526]

I don't dream about a 310R.....I dream about a R 1200 RT! :)

And the other issue I have is that BMW parts are not that easy for me to get - the closest dealer is 2 hours away.  And the R 1200 RT is so loaded down with electronic stuff (traction control, suspension settings, ABS).....I don't know what/how I could get it fixed if something went wrong.  When it is working right it is reported to be the best sport touring bike ever built.

I've been thinking about that 310R BMW, light weight, good seat height and fast enough for the back roads that I travel.  In short all the same reasons I like my S40. Except, it probably needs to rev a little to put out some decent power and torque.  The new small Kawasaki Versy looks interesting also.

I don't ride the S40 because it is cheap, I ride it because I like it.  I like my motorcycles light and simple with some low end torque.

Same here, it is why I have a 300 Ninja, it is almost maintenance free.... and gets roughly 64 miles to the gallon most times :)
