Title: New Year's resolution
Post by Buster on 01/01/17 at 07:26:45

Get another S40 - Really regret selling my 2012.

Looking at a couple of new 2016's right now and just trying to decide if I'd be happier with the White one or the Blue one...

If you are asking for opinions/suggestions .... go for blue.

Miles, mods, how have they been maintained, does one have a rear brake that'll lock up if you sneeze on the pedal, OEM tires or has someone replaced a rear tire? I don't know of a crappier tire than the OEM.
Look around for rust, RTV,
Ask what they do when they start it up. Do they fire it up and let it warm up while they get their gear on? Is the idle speed right?
Either color is nice, I prefer the white, but that was the first one I saw. It was on the showroom floor in 05. I put 20,000 miles on it,then decided my body was finished with riding.. I recently bought an 02, silver, and I would not have bought silver if there were mechanically equal options, But, I've really come to dig it.
Anyway, my suggestion is , study the machines and try to pick the one that will be more likely to not need a cam, etc.

If the spokes look like crap, they don't clean up well or easily. Nothing wrong with getting down and rubbing the rim, feel for tiny bumps. The chrome on these isn't the best and I don't think it's real consistent, like the reports on rear brake action. The 05 would lock up before I could feel pressure on my boot, the 02 works great. It lived in Galveston Texas a while and has some freckles. Even though I have cleaned and polished and they are invisible now, I can feel them. How and where they were stored matters.

Right now my choices are discounted new 2016's - $5,199 for the White and $4,599 "Holiday Special" on the Blue. Prefer the Blue, but like the clean look of the White. Also found a seemingly great deal on an unsold new Red 2015 for $3,999 ...but I'll have to go look to see if it's as good of a deal as it appears to be. About a 100 mile drive to see it, while the 2016's are here locally. Dealer may come off the White one a bit more, but I don't want to talk best price until I'm completely decided.

Red is a fine color. They are all new, and the saved money on purchase price can go for gas and stuff..

Deposit...PAID !!!!!  New (2 miles) 2015 Pearl Moon Stone Gray. To me it looks like the perfect combo of dark paint on the bike and engine mixed with just the right amount of chrome. Not a real big fan of the all blacked-out or too chromed-out look of some bikes. Will be picking up on Saturday. And it will be a cold 40 degrees.  :-*

Congrats! Maybe I'll come to OK when I'm in the market for a new one! They never discount any bikes here in WA, some 3 years old still on the floor, MSRP+! Oh, and maybe I can check out OUR (former) SuperSonics in Okey City while I'm there. :D

Sorry if I came off a little deceptive, but I just did a lot of looking around in the last few days trying to get exactly what I wanted. The Gray bike wasn't really mentioned because of price and I never thought I'd like the color, but after seeing the bike in person I knew it would be the one I'd buy. Dealer didn't discount price very much - ended up paying $5,300 total OTD price. Most Gray s40's within 300 miles of me were same price or full MSRP, before dealer fees were added on. Only found one cheaper, but didn't feel like driving 600 miles round trip to get it.

This will probably be the very last bike I own and I hope to ride every day that it's above 32 degrees. And I'll make sure to check the forums for expert advice and opinions, when I'm not busy riding.

Being on a "work" day I'll have to take a personal day off to attend, but it shouldn't be a problem. I can get more details later on - thanks for the invite.  :)
