Title: Just wore my new light weight leather jacket Post by springman on 12/30/16 at 13:49:47 I just got back from a short ride. It is currently 55 F and very cloudy. My wife got me a light weight leather jacket (I guess it is really a dress up type jacket) and I figured I would see how it handles the cold. I have to admit though that the leather on the front of the jacket is perforated leather and I am guessing it is something like a lambskin as it is very soft and thin. The jacket did well in this temp as long as I kept the speed to about 30 mph or slower. Once I sped up it was cold. So I only went about 4 or 5 miles. To make sure that it wasn't just me being a weenie. I changed to my buffalo leather motorcycle jacket (not perforated) and went for another spin. I was not being a weenie. This jacket kept me much warmer. Well, now I have a mild weather leather jacket along with my cold weather leather jacket. ::) |

Title: Re: Just wore my new light weight leather jacket Post by springman on 12/30/16 at 15:50:37 Yeah, I'm not a cold weather person either. Heck it was in the upper 70's earlier this week here in Houston. I do have a nice pair of insulated riding pants for when I do want to go for a long ride in the cold and at that point I will probably have at least 3 layers under my warm leather jacket. I just need a good pair of warm gloves. I even have a balaclava for keeping my head and neck warm. |
Title: Re: Just wore my new light weight leather jacket Post by Kris01 on 12/30/16 at 17:25:11 I have no problems with the cold. I just dress for it. My hands are the only parts that hurt from the cold. I'm still looking for a good pair of gloves that are warm, protective and not so bulky. Not real picky, am I? :D |
Title: Re: Just wore my new light weight leather jacket Post by batman on 12/30/16 at 18:27:17 gauntlet snowmobile mittens (leather),are the best . all your controls are accessed by thumb, and there's no wind between your fingers. |
Title: Re: Just wore my new light weight leather jacket Post by Kris01 on 12/30/16 at 19:15:40 I've never considered mittens. They are considerably warmer than gloves. ;) |
Title: Re: Just wore my new light weight leather jacket Post by MMRanch on 12/30/16 at 20:11:49 Kris I found some that are not to thick , have a long cuff , and inside the cuff with a zipper compartment containing a water/wind proof mitten ! :) The bad part is they cost me $22.oo ... :( ... but I've had them for years (6 or 8 ? ). But : OOOooo , but they are warm ! ;) |
Title: Re: Just wore my new light weight leather jacket Post by Kris01 on 12/31/16 at 10:43:09 $22 isn't too bad if they do what they're supposed to. What brand? |
Title: Re: Just wore my new light weight leather jacket Post by justin_o_guy2 on 12/31/16 at 15:34:56 I've found that a fleece lined large pistol carrier that is fleece lined, zipped open and slipped inside the jacket stops the wind and adds a good bit of insulation right where I need it. On days when the weather changed quickly and caught me away from home, I have stopped at a store and grabbed a few Thrifty Nickel papers and slipped a few layers in and then wadded a few pages up and shoved them in to create a dead air gap. |
