No mods needed.  Has the correct connectors for the Savage.
Comes charged and ready to go.
JOG, if you are looking at the goofy red thing on the far battery post in the picture.. that is nothing more than the screws and spacers (if needed) that come with the battery.

That's good news. :)

The early big cranks came with an oversized block to bolt the cable end to.
And you had to modify the anti rotation tab to fit it.  I flattened mine out.
The of course the rubber boot no longer fit.

Also note that some say it's a tight fit and some say they couldn't get it in.
I hear those complaints all the time.   8-)

Well, I'll have to see if it fits. If it does not, I'll be looking for another AGM battery.

I see what you did there!  ;D

Yes, I see what he did too. Made a fool of a newbie (me), as I expected a serious answer to a genuine question, and not a vulgar sexual innuendo. And this guy is a moderator?

it's a serious response with a double meaning, how you take it is up to you.

no bodies making a fool of you but yourself.

It's been so long since I started using that battery that I didn't even remember having to flatten the tab.. must have done it at some point though.

JLC, don't be offended. No harm, no foul. Verslagen is a good guy and very knowledgeable. Just say "Thank you"!  :D

I don't know about Big Crank, but Motobatt won't go in a stock battery box. So check you height against a stock lead acid job. A millimetre makes a big difference. One way round it would be to shave something off a rubber/flexible pad in the bottom of the stock battery box.

Is AGM the preferred battery?

It looks like it's sealed and doesn't need water maintenance.  Would I be correct?

I had my first experience with adding water to the stock battery.  A lot of labor for just adding water!

Open to your ideas on the best sealed batteries for the bike (Mine is a 2015).

Thanks.

Ron,

It is a real hassle putting water in the battery on the Savage/S40. Some will say it is an easy bike to work on. I will say it is not complicated but there is nothing easy about working on it.

I have had very good luck with the Yuasa Maintenance Free Batteries.

You can save $25.00 or so if ordering from Amazon.

Kenny,

I don't think that is the right battery.
It shows: 9.3 x 6.4 x 5.7 inches  on the Amazon page.

My Big Crank battery is:
Length:      5.25"
Width:      3.5"
Height:      6.56"

Just measured a spare I have, and it matches the Big Crank battery measurements

It may be a Savage, but it's not a very *friendly* person.

Guyz,

I know that I purchased my battery from Amazon and I know it is a Yuasa Maintenance Free Battery. But those numbers of yours are probably the correct dimensions and my link may be wrong.

But Amazon states "This Fits Your 2013 Suzuki S40 Boulevard". I wouldn't order this again without checking the Yuasa website.

Someone posted on Amazon: "I believe that 5.3 x 3.5 x 6.6 are the correct dimensions."

Another guy on Amazon posted: "Works and fits perfectly on my 2008 Suzuki S40."

The next time I have the battery out of my bike I will measure it and post the dimensions.

It looks like they just messed up the dimensions in the description.

I looked other places on the internot, and the dimensions are (L x W x H): 5.16 x 3.47 x 6.34 Inches.

You should have order history from Amazon to double check that the part number is right.

P.S.  Wallyworld has it for $41!   Different manufacturere though..

Guyz,

When I switched to Chrome I lost my shopping history. Since you mentioned history I opened Amazon with Internet Explorer and that is definitely the battery that I purchased. So I guess their description is messed up.

I wonder how many order they lost because of the description?

I just came across this battery while researching some other stuff and I remembered this thread, so I thought I'd put it up for considerations, looks pretty good and cheap too.

https://www.batterystuff.com/powersports-batteries/sYTX14AHL-BS.html

it's one of the batteries on this page listed for the S40

The Big Crank ETX15L AGM battery fits perfectly, but you have to bend one of the tabs on each terminal as the posts are wider than on the original battery. I fitted one to my 2015 S40 yesterday.
