Title: Rode today!! 12-26
Post by Boofer on 12/26/16 at 13:27:13

Just wanted to try out my wife's new HP Notebook. 15" WalMart $199. Hate windows 10, but what can you do. It is 75 degrees in Northeast Ms. Rode my non-Savage bike 40 miles. Good sunny ride, but the wind was gusting trying to push me into the grass. Expecting rain and cooler front in here by tomorrow morning. Not nearly as bad as most of our nation right now.

Merry Christmas and happy and safe New Year. Boofer

What part of MS are you in? I'm probably closer than I think.

It was surprising to see the weather that we're having today. It's almost January and it's in the 70's!

Boofer, if you hate Windows 10 perhaps you should study some of Oldfellers posts. If your equipment is new, it may be set for Windows 10. Sadly it appears that going to this Linux thingy requires some computer literacy far in advance of mine. At least you could enjoy a ride, I had a short one last evening and it was very pleasant.

I took a short ride yesterday afternoon too.  The balmy weather was just too good to pass up.  It was 70 here in eastern OK.
It felt good. [ch128526]

I'm glad to see I'm not the only nut job out there riding this time of year. On my X-mas day ride I counted 3 other riders out there braving the 40 degree weather and I still heard the howl of sportbikes on the interstate late at night as usual. It's 55 today and I'm stuck at work  >:(
I'll be taking a night ride later on though

I could have gone for a ride....it was 70 degrees in Kentucky!

Unfortunately I was in a car fighting traffic on I-71 - my wife and I were driving home after spending Christmas with my mother.

It was about 19 degrees when I got home here in Boise yesterday afternoon.  About a foot of snow and still packed on the roads.  Started the bike under the carport, and let it run while sitting on it for about 10 minutes while it warmed up and charged the battery.  Wishful thinking.  :(

I hope it idled standing up and not leaning on the kickstand! That's bad news for the cam!

During my younger years (middle ages!) I used to try to take my bike out either on Christmas Day or New year's Day back in Ohio.  Sometimes the weather would be unseasonably warm and it was a joy. Most times however, freezing!

Now, down here in South Carolina, the coolest day so far (around 2 - 3 PM) has been over 40. Many days over 55.

So, my Holiday riding is now pretty much every other day or so.  Recently, I went on 2 trips of over 40 miles each.

The Suzuki, also, is really friendly for this as it is easy to ride and so enjoyable.

I've been to Easley before, picked up a parts bike from there 6-7 years ago.
It actually started and ran briefly before I shut it off.
It had some EXCESS engine noise.
Took the head off and found a dropped valve.
SURPRISE SURPRISE !!

we will have a foot of snow here by morning! Happy New Year!  8-)
In another life, I rode the perimeter road around Athens Georgia on Jan 1, 1995 on a Honda Ascot 500 V-twin. First and last time in the cccold!

I rode today, from my home in Dairy Flat to a place called Drury and from there to a place called Kiaua. A wide variety of Velocettes, Matchless, AJS, the oldest a 1926 350. Douglas, Triumph, Darley Havidson, Guzzi, Indian, Norton, 350 four cylinder Honda and god knows what else. Oldest car was a 1924 rear wheel braked four cylinder Dodge, most expensive a Bentley Mk6. Lovely back roads, enough twisties to keep post menopausal riders and old farts happy and a good run home. Ooohhh and a 350 Jawa.

Ruttly mine was a 1974 Model 634 which I brought  new in 1976, I enjoyed it until a rotating Morris Oxford took me out in 1979. Some guys at work rebuilt it, but it had a serious steering head vibration on braking and eleven months later I was passing a woman who slammed on her brakes to avoid a dog that ran in front of her, the back of her car locked up, swung round and took me off, that was the end of the Jawa and the end of motorcycling for twenty seven years.
