Title: Insurance????
Post by ditz on 12/03/16 at 08:50:13

How do you folks insure your rides? I am thinking only getting liability to allow me to get plates. Are you using any special company? I have never had to deal with m/c insurance before.

I just made an offer on a real nice 06' with 7000 miles. No response yet.

I have Progressive, and my motorcycles only have Liability/Theft on them.  They aren't valuable enough to justify comprehensive.....I would think differently if I had a $ 20,000 motorcycle.

I have full coverage (collision & comprehensive) on my S40 since it's almost new & possibility of theft in the Big City.

Liability is fairly cheap, so I max that out.

Also, look into availability of Under-Insured Motorist. My hospital bills from a 2013 accident were $120,000, & the at-fault pickup driver only had $100,000 in liability. Uninsured Motorist covers you if the at-fault party has NO insurance; Underinsured Motorist fills the gap that the other party's insurance doesn't cover.

Shop, get quotes for just liability, liability plus uninsured motorists, collision and comprehensive, and if you're gonna be carrying a passenger, be insured for medical for them.
Being insured for medical can be a big deal.
Kinda depends on the way you use it. You riding more than driving?
It's pencil and paper time.

I am retired and I doubt that the wife will ever get on even as a passenger. It is basically a toy mostly just short joy rides and simple errands. I will be surprised if I ride it 3000 a year and I will be a warm weather sissy. I have ridden in sub zero temps more than once but I was young and dumb then. 6 or 7 months is about my max here in middle TN.  ;D

The fella just accepted my offer so now all I need to do is get a trailer and go pick it up. The big sissy that I am makes it too cold for an hours plus ride home and I no longer have the clothes for it anyway.  :-[

Wise choice. At 60 MPH a comfortably cool day becomes miserable.
