Title: Different front rim?
Post by Bjarras on 11/28/16 at 01:16:43

Hey guys,

My savage is ongoing to be a hard tail bobber and due to regulations in my country (Sweden), if I'm going to register it as a "changed vehicle" I need 2 to have bigger changes done independent from each other.

The hardtail is one...

Changing the brake system or rake will be the other and the brakes seems to be the easiest one.

I'm looking for a different front rim with dual discs.
Anyone who has any suggestion what may fit with minor changes?

The easiest front brake upgrade is to get the larger disc and dual piston caliper from Shawn (listed in the marketplace).  It is a bolt on change, and will give you all the braking power you will ever need on a Savage.  Dual discs are used on heavier/faster bikes and two discs are not needed on a 350 pound bike that likely can't get over 90 mph.

Going to dual discs on a Savage will likely require you to swap the entire front end (wheel, discs, forks, yokes) from another bike, as the Savage fork doesn't work well with other discs and only has a mounting for a caliper on one side.

The thing is that it isn't the breaking power itself that has to be changed, I can even fit a drum brake up front if I want to.

But I do need to modify it so it counts as a "big change" in order to be able to register it. If it wasn't for this rule I would have left it stock.

Another alternative would be if it was possible to find a different yokes with about 3-4 degrees more rake. you know if anybody is selling those?
