Title: New centre stand
Post by Papa Bear on 11/16/16 at 11:30:02

Cobbled up a sweet working centre stand yesterday.
The 4' length of 3/4 pipe works well to lever the bike up then slide the pipe to make a stabilizing leg as shown.

The reason I made the stand is because when I went to move the bike it was making horrible crunching and grabbing sounds from the counter-shaft (front) belt pulley area.
I was sure something was busted and was going to cost $1.000 to fix.
I removed the cover from the pulley area and a walnut fell out !!
One of the local squirrels had stashed it up on the belt and when I pushed the bike forward it got caught in the pulley.
$1,000 fix turned out to be free !!

Anyway, here's my lift
. ;)

I like it. Elegant simplicity.

Is it hard to lift the bike on to it?

It's very easy to raise the bike.
The photo is a little misleading -  all the wood pieces are screwed together.
You slide it under the bike on an angle with the pipe inserted into the 4X4 ... push down and VOILA !! ... the bike is raised.
When the bike is upright you center the pipe in the 4X4 so it sticks out both sides - prevents bike from rocking forward-backward

Have you tried a rat trap baited with peanut butter? Too bad it's illegal here; it's more effective than a shotgun and much cheaper ;D. Squirrel stew, anyone?

Fuzzy tail rats!!! They eat the flowers and birdseed in my yard! I can't stand them!

a couple of hooks at each end of the stand, and you can strap the bike securely in place... 8-)

Extra points for the moto grip on the handle!

Serobot,
What did you decide is the optimum height for the stand?

Thanks, Norman.

My bike is Abbey Normal with 12" rear shocks,.. but 8-1/2" stand height works with stock as well...
...(you can see on the video it don't take much to lift it up there)...
8-)

My stand is 7 1/2" tall.

Thanks papabear. That will save some trial and "error".

Getting the height just right is most of the problem.

Norman. :)

When the bike is on the lift my handle serves as a leg to keep the lift from rolling frontward or backward.
