Title: How to make a mess adding crush washer to oil plug
Post by SuperBrett on 11/06/16 at 13:59:00

I am still cracking up about this bone headed move. When I changed the oil in my new (to me) savage the other day I forgot to replace the crush washer. I have read in many places that you could hold a vacuum to the fill hold and remove the oil plug real quick and not loose much oil so I thought I would give it a try so with my children's help I made a youtube video about it. What I forgot to do was insure that the vacuum hose was plugged in to the right place on the vacuum before I did this.

I think you would have been fine without replacing the crush washer. I certainly don't replace mine each time. Just monitor for a leak.
Or did you forget to place the old one on the plug?

It might work if you pinched top breather hose at top of head.

I forgot the washer entirely and there where a few drips on the garage floor from it leaking after each ride.

Maybe instead of going gray I am going blond  :D

that's the fastest drain I ever saw.   ;D

Would've been easier just to tip it on it's side.

45° and you can change the clutch cover gasket.

That plug is SOOO long winded,, I use a string, once it's out a few turns, I wrap it with a piece of skinny, strong cord and spin it..

Think you set a record for evacuating oil from an engine !

I've head that if you turn the bike upside down you can remove the drain plug without any oil coming out of the drain. Can you shoot a video for us to prove this theory?

Thumbs up for trying. Two thumbs up for getting your son involved.

That was awesome!  So few would share that.

If we can't laugh at ourselves, then shame on us all.  ;)

You mean Super Dave Osborn, the best stuntman who ever lived? Figured that with this being all about motorcycles I would pay homage to one of the greats lol.

Why didn't I think of that when I was making up my screen name?  I even had one City Council member that always called me that!
