Title: Unusual Request.  I Actually Need a Quiet Pipe
Post by savagebruh on 10/26/16 at 13:19:44

I know most people usually want the opposite but I actually want something quieter.  I just got a 2004 Savage and it has a Supertrapp pipe installed.  Even with my heavy duty earplugs it gets too loud for my comfort once I'm in third or fourth gear.

I already have pretty severe hearing problems and want something that doesn't bother me so much.  I know loud pipes help keep you safe and everything but I care more about my ears safety right now.

What's the best option?  Should I buy a used stock Savage pipe?  Or is there a cheaper option like some of the ones on ebay?

Thanks

A stock muff is the quietest.

There are things you can do to the super to make it quieter.
You can remove 2 screws/bolts on the side of the can (not the rear) and put wrap new glass around the baffle.
And you can reduce the number of disks to 6.  this might make it a bit rich so you should check the jet sizes.

Ditto on the stock muffler.

I wear earplugs in conjunction with my helmet and that seems to make the biggest difference for me.  The high pitch from the wind leaves my ears ringing on long rides.

How many discs do you have on it now?

A stock muffler is quit expensive ,the next best would be the Harley muffler at about 1/10 the price,if your not able to quite the supertrapp.

I had a SuperTrapp on my bike when I got it, and I took it off as I thought it was too loud.  I liked the DYNA muffler, it was much better.  The stock muffler is even more so.  You should be able to find either one very affordable.  I have a stock one that is  some rust on it - but you are welcome to it for the cost of the shipping.

Cool thanks for all the good info. I'm not sure how many discs it has but it doesn't have the cover on the end that I know. Think I'm gonna go for a stock one. Do I need any screws or anything with it to get it on?Dm'ing both of you guys.

Cone engineering has a muffler that produces very muffled low rumbles and only costs about $125 and is all stainless steel.

That's a very important question.
The End cap design is important.
If it has a hole, it probably says
For Track use only.

The Dyna is a sweet sound, the mount can be a cake walk or bare foot through grass burs.. just depends..
I Could be interested in your Supertrapp,
Depending on model and condition. For now, I'm happy with the Dyna, but if I found the right deal on the right
Supertrapp, I'd consider it.

I had 14disks in mine, and it was ooookay..
But knowing how the screws stick , I wouldn't want a used one unless it's set up right and in good shape.

So, whatchya got and how much izzit?
A Dyna should be available for about$20.00.

Just realized I don't have enough posts to PM, so I emailed you Dave and Tallelf.

About selling the Supertrapp, I'm not totally sure how many discs it has but once I replace it I'd be totally willing to sell it for a good price.

If it doesn't have the end cap on....it isn't doing much of anything to muffle the noise.  You need the screws, and discs, and end cap before it starts to muffle the noise appreciably.

I have a Supertrapp as well that was on  the 2001 Savage I bought a few weeks ago. It came with six discs and the endcap, but it is still too loud for me. I'm looking for something a bit quieter as well.

I guess I will try repacking the S/T and see how that works out. Or maybe I'll just sell it.

Bad News.......I went and looked for the muffler, and when I couldn't find it I remembered I gave it to my neighbor for metal scrap when I was cleaning out my garage.  Sorry......
