Title: Bike dying in ON but runs in RES
Post by SuperBrett on 10/24/16 at 16:31:17

The problem that I just started having is that the bike will not run for more than a few blocks if the petcock is set to the ON position but works fine in reserve. I am thinking this is a petcock issue but just want to make sure I am not missing anything. Is there something else I should be concerned with or look at? I have only had this bike a few weeks so I am still figuring out all its quirks.

I have read on here that the petcocks are a common problem so I have ordered a new one (Yamaha raptor 660). I like how it has an off position so I will probably change it out anyway even if the issue is with something else.

How much gas you got?... ;D
It shouldn't matter as far as the vacuum pet is concerned... Res and on both use vacuum...
Prime setting doesn't... 8-)

Nope, what you have is a diaphragm that's getting hard.
You can replace the diaphragm but it's the same cost as a raptorcock.
So you might as well do that and have no more problems.

The question is are we missing anything? If in fact it runs in reserve, you could just have a plugged screen inside on the petcock,if the petcock has to be switched to pri then we would suspect a bad diaphragm.

Thank you for the responses. I have been fueling up the bike a little at a time with gas I had in the garage so I got used to it cutting out, getting home on reserve and adding a little more. I only realized I had a problem when I went to the gas station and filled up and it only took a gallon to be full only to cut out a few miles later. I will change it out this week and should be good.
