Title: Carb or intake? Post by Chase on 10/22/16 at 03:13:53 I have had no bites on selling my one bike so what's the obvious thing to do? Dump more money in it of coarse. So the next upgrades would be slide carb and upgrade cam and new cam chain while at it. But I was thinking about the discussion of tuning Intake this summer and was wondering if our stock carb being that it is a vacuum carb could it work with a kuy hypercharger? Would have to return to stock petcock? Would have enough vacuum to move the butterflies? And if it would or does work would it be a better upgrade to tune the air intake with that or go with the slide carb? Or ....... start with slide carb and modify the hypercharger butterflies to open with throttle cable instead of vacuum...... A lot of ifs in this post sorry |

Title: Re: Carb or intake? Post by Dave on 10/22/16 at 04:05:54 If you are referring to a Kury Hypercharger.....it won't do anything to help a Savage engine run better. The stock carb can flow enough air for the engine changes you are considering........I put a Stage 1 cam, ported head, 95mm Wiseco and Supertrapp on my engine, and it ran fine with the stock carb and air cleaner. Later on I changed to a Mikuni round slide and a large foam air cleaner.....it ran a bit better but wasn't a huge difference. |

It does nothing to jack up power. It is rather large dimensionally which would make it difficult to mount as well. But if you want to try to mount it you are welcome to use the one I have when I pull it off. If you get it on and want to keep it then we can talk about price. It would be a good deal. |

This engine already has had head work done to it. I might have enough money to change cam, piston, and slide carb minik it definitely will have for 2 of the upgrades. I also could finish the hearing upgrade with how you did on your bike as well. Looking to get the most bang for buck I guess. I do doubt my skill removing the cylinder from the lower engine which will up the cost substantially for the piston upgrade |

Post by Chase on 10/22/16 at 04:32:30 I understand that it's not forced air but someone mentioned adapting a scoop to stock air box to improve air flow isn't the hypercharger similar system? My worry about it would be that the butterflies wouldn't open or can't with our carb. Either way you will be getting a order from me lancer definitely getting the cam and a chain of you still have any. And I guess I just have to decide on piston or new carb. |

Let me suggest that if you want to stagger parts purchases you may want to start with the piston & camshaft since they require opening the engine. Doing both of those together will save you work. No need to open it twice. Then you could add the VM carb later if you chose. I only have 2 of the 94mm pistons left on the shelf so don't delay too long. |
