Title: Should I get this...and a divorce?
Post by stewmills on 10/21/16 at 13:38:21

I can't get this and stay married...but dang this looks like a lot of fun, especially for a small guy like me.

Dave, I think we're gonna need a Z125 Dragon meet-up on top of the Ninja one  ;)

Kawasaki Z125 Pro!

It would be fun if you never went more than 10 miles from home!:

well, it'll cost more than a bike ONCE
of course, if you have kids, and live in an alimony state....

Besides the general size of this thing, I think the funniest part of the whole riding experience owning this bike would be telling folks the name.

I mean, really......    Kawasaki Z125 Pro

What the heck kind of PRO bike is this??? That's funny as all get-out.   ;D

I've given consideration to getting a 250/350 class street-legal dirt bike.  ::)

If I come across a "like new" one for half price some day I suspect  I'll do it too .      :)
NO liquid cooling --- no need for screaming HP , just kin to an old Honda XL350 / Yahama DR series  or the like.  ;)

Holy crap!  I want one of those too!!!!!!!!

Went out with a friend yesterday and rode his KTM 250s for a bit. First time in probably 25 years I have been on a "dirt" bike.  Fun, but definitely a different feeling letting the front tire track around in the dirt and grooves and feeling the rear fishtail around. Once I got used to it I was ok, but the first few minutes felt strange coming off of street bikes. The only scare I had was when the engine died coming around a left-hand turn on the dirt road. When I downshifted and let out the clutch the rear tire locked up and sent me sliding through the corner so I quickly counter steered and just went with the slide not quite sure yet what had happened.  Luckily I have been goofing off on my mountain bike (bicycle) lately so I was sort feeling ok with the slide.  Half-way through the slide I engaged the clutch to get the rear rolling again and got the bike back upright and under full control, popped the clutch, and zoom zoom went the engine and away I went...with only lightly soiled pants.  :o

Well if you are going to buy something small....at least make it useful!

Buy a 50cc bike, and then you can go "fiddie" racing at Deals Gap.  They have racing at Deals Gap, and I tried to schedule one of our group trips to be there on that night.....but it didn't work out.

I don't get the 12" wheels though. Why scooter wheels. Put 17 inch wheels on it and it's a real motorcycle.

I don't get it either - but Kawasaki is trying to cash in on the success that Honda has had with the Grom and Ruckus.  Maybe some folks just feel safer on a bike that looks small (even if it would handle better and be safer with larger diameter wheels).

My best guess is that it's something that you can try to ride at 10/10ths and not be at ludicrous speed. Plus with something that small, people are probably treating them a little more like a dirt bike that they can throw around and not break.

I imagine if I had one I'd be constantly beating on it and doing stupid things that I wouldn't try on a 'normal' motorcycle. I'd personally just spend the same amount of money on a dirt / motard bike.

Yep....you are always so much safer with the bigger wheels!

Actually, a lot of scooter manufacturers opt for the smaller wheels specifically for in-city maneuverability.  A larger wheel definitely gives a nicer ride but 10" wheels can turn on a dime.  Speaking with a little experience here.  I spent about 7 years and 40K miles with a scooter that had 10" wheels.  I rode several with larger wheels during that time and the differences were very noticeable!

Watching that crash compilation reminded me of something I learned at Barber's a few weeks ago. Kept seeing these things only on the right handlebar covering the brake lever.  Finally asked a rider what they were and he explained that it's a simple guard that protects your brake lever. Not from breaking off, but from when you are tangling up with other bikes for positions off of the starting line or worse at higher track speeds, that your opponent's handlebar doesn't accidentally depress your brake lever and cause your front tire to lock up and make you 'fall down-go boom".

Very basic principle, but makes a whole lotta sense!

Stew:

Now I don't know which handlebar accessory I should get?  Either that brake lever thingy.....or the long leather strap with the metal buckle on the end so I can assault anyone that gets too near!

Back in the 70's when I was off road racing....the front brakes were so weak that you could have shoved somebody off their motorcycle with your brake lever - without the front brake doing much of anything to slow the bike down!

Leather straps are always better, no matter what the application  ;D ;D ;D
