Title: Neighbor got a new car. Post by Dagillespi on 10/14/16 at 14:06:36 No big deal bought a new jeep cherokee. I drive a cherokee too. Mine was made in 2000 his 2017. What's the point of this post. My neighbor is on disability. Ithe doesn't stop him mowing his lawn with his zero turn mower, or plowing snow with his new 4 wheeler. I make 60k right now which I realize isn't that much, but I can't grasp how the government is giving him this kind of money. |
Title: Re: Neighbor got a new car. Post by verslagen1 on 10/14/16 at 14:49:30 The fact that he's on disability says little for his income. May have an excellent retirement package. May have had an insurance settlement that made him disabled. Without any other knowledge, I can only say it took him 17 years to catch up to the Jones. :-? |
Title: Re: Neighbor got a new car. Post by justin_o_guy2 on 10/14/16 at 14:54:10 People are so quick to assume. He may have inherited, he may have been a businessman, he may have invested well. |
Title: Re: Neighbor got a new car. Post by Dagillespi on 10/14/16 at 15:28:58 Sorry fellas should have elaborated. He's never recieved any sort of settlement he is 30 parents are great people mom is a retired CNA dad is on disability. I'm not bashing him as personality goes he's a good person. We have talked about him not working and I quote why would I get a job that pays less than I get for not working. It may have come off as me not knowing him I should have explained more I've known him for 3 years not friends but if we're having a fire or vice versa the invite is there. |
Title: Re: Neighbor got a new car. Post by justin_o_guy2 on 10/14/16 at 16:54:24 good person. We have talked about him not working and I quote why would I get a job that pays less than I get for not working. Good person who has exactly Zero grasp of self respect, honesty, character. I'm curious about How he got on disability. I went through a long, hard time,, And yes you should actually tell what you know about a topic if you're going to introduce it. Otherwise, you get people typing a bunch of crap. |
Title: Re: Neighbor got a new car. Post by Dagillespi on 10/14/16 at 19:07:42 Don't really know how to defend someone as a person while at the same time being entirely disgusted by what they're doing at the same time. Anyway the point from the beginning was not him as a person it was my inability to understand how someone in that situation could afford to purchase the above stated items. |
Title: Re: Neighbor got a new car. Post by justin_o_guy2 on 10/14/16 at 19:11:42 IDK, I couldn't survive on mine. Without the wife's income, even if I was single , best I could hope for would be bunk in a shed behind someone's house.. |
Title: Re: Neighbor got a new car. Post by LostArtist on 10/14/16 at 19:18:08 you know a Jeep Cherokee isn't like a Bentley or something, and if he's single, no kids, no child payments, no student debt, and if his parents are helping him any, idk, it could be a lease too, idk, I don't know what disability pays or anything, but a cherokee starts at $250 for a lease ... |
Title: Re: Neighbor got a new car. Post by Dagillespi on 10/15/16 at 02:47:45 Idk either it baffles me. I realize it's not a Bently and I'm guessing his folks do help. I guess I've watched to many people buying streak and four cases of pop with an access card in their pajamas while deciding whether I wanted Ramen noodles or a TV dinner back when things were tough. |

I wasn't going to reply to this, imagine that, I hold my opine ;D However, you seem genuine in your sincerity, and not out to make a hit on someone. I think we all fair better when we don't "Look at the Jones'" to see how well, or not, we are doing. It will only spring forth resentments, or false pride, if you appear to fair better. I have shared before on the site, this observation, You lie the loudest, when you lie to yourself. Understanding what that means, and accepting it as truth, will give you the ability to see yourself with 20/20 vision. Once you see who you really are, you won't need to look at others, to gauge yourself. No one else can give to you anything, that you are not willing to give, to yourself..... Being honest to yourself, first, frees us to be who we are..... PS: took me 50 years to have that conversation with myself, arg :-[ |
Title: Re: Neighbor got a new car. Post by MnSpring on 10/15/16 at 17:13:24 Don’t know, not enough information. However, one day, I WATCHED, 30-40,000.00 + Cars and Trucks and SUV’s Get FREE FOOD !!!! 90% of Them !!!!!!!! ( I was Working, PAYING for their, FREE FOOD) I would, if in such dire straights, that I needed FREE FOOD, would Give UP, the 30-40.000.00 vehicle. To make ends meet. And most certainly, I would not be, Grossly, Over weight, like 50+ % that I saw. So even though the situation described, ’needs more information’. It is TOTALLY, Apparent, that some people, are USING, the system. |
Title: Re: Neighbor got a new car. Post by Paraquat on 10/17/16 at 09:10:37 A Jeep Grand Cherokee is not a Bentley, no, but it's still 43k. And I'm still driving my 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse and my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee because I can't afford a new car. My new neighbor right next door to me bought the house. He takes care of his father. He's on disability. Father is retired. Somehow they were able to afford a house. It is mildly beneficial to me because he sits on the porch and smokes all day. Kind of like hiring a security guard. Meanwhile, I'm working 47.5-51.5 hours per week at job #1 and 15-18 a week at job #2. Life ain't fair. --Steve |
Title: Re: Neighbor got a new car. Post by Serowbot on 10/17/16 at 09:27:22 I was at a Goodwill thrift shop about a month ago,.. and a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow was parked in the lot... (Probably 80's model but immaculate)... I wish I'd taken a picture (always forgetting my phone has a camera)... ::) |

Yeah, an '80s vintage, expensive, BRITISH car. Maybe the guy was just sick of trying to keep it running, and was there to donate it. Cut his losses, take the tax deduction and buy something dependable. |

Just because I feel like being contrary - and because I enjoy a good semantic argument. Doubling the PRICE of the car does not necessarily double the VALUE of the car. VALUE, I think, is in the eye of the beholder. Sorry. I'm gonna leave now :) |
