Title: Polaris Slingshot-To Be, Or Not To Be
Post by HAPPYDAN on 10/10/16 at 13:03:19

I checked out a Polaris Slingshot
http://www.polaris.com/en-us/slingshot
IMHO, it is not a motorcycle, but a three-wheeled car that does not appear to meet current US environmental or safety standards.
Rumor has it this has not escaped the purview of the EPA or NTSB.
I'll stick to 2 wheels for now.

When two wheels is not possible anymore, a Miata looks like the next best thing.

I just read an article about this......seems that folks are having a hard time accepting that something you ride in (not on), is still a motorcycle.  I agree......the Slingshot is more car than motorcycle.  I also believe that a "streetable"  ATV that you sit on is more like a motorcycle than the Slingshot - but you can't buy an ATV that is street legal (The local law has not problem with the farmer riding their ATV on the street when doing farm chores - but the local fellow that ran his Banshee up and down the road at 70 mph was not voted in for a 'Good Neighbor Award").

Not to be...

It's like saying that Pee Wee Herman is a bodybuilder. Just because he enters the competition doesn't mean he is one. It doesn't work that way  :-?

Dictionary says a "cycle" is a bicycle or motorcycle.  Motorcycle is defined as a vehicle with two wheels that is powered by a motor and that can carry one or two people.

Sorry Slingshot, but you're one of these:
Full Definition of tricycle
:  a 3-wheeled vehicle propelled by pedals or a motor

Good try though!   :P :P :P

Meh, its not faster than a car or bike, doesn't handle better either; I don't get it. I think it's just something for people who want to be noticed. Definitely catches people's attention.

I get it....if you are too clumsy or afraid of riding on 2 wheels, and even the Can Am 3 wheeler is scary - you might be just brave enough to try something that sits, steers and drives a lot like a car.

All of you can complain about it not being a motorcycle if you want. I'll just say it's ugly. 'Nuff said!  :D

A buddy of mine has a Cam Am Spyder and a SlingShot.

He is older and can no longer ride on 2 wheels and wants to stay on the road.

I can guarantee one thing he is on the road well beyond the point in life that most people on here will be riding.

I have never felt acceleration like the SlingShot

I'm actually kind of surprised by the number of them that I've see on the road.

I just see it as an easy / cheap way to have an open cockpit vehicle. I don't really care if it's classified as a car or a motorcycle. If money wasn't an issue I'm guessing that the majority of the people that bought them would buy an Ariel Atom or KTM X-Bow if they could. If I HAD to go the three-wheeler route I'd probably get a Campagna T-Rex over of the Slingshot.

I agree with Dave...
I've seen a "slingshot" on a couple of the local back roads out of Albuquerque this summer.. My wife commented that "It looked like fun"....

I've ridden the CanAm Spyder.  I've ridden trikes.   I've ridden motorcycles w/ sidecars.
They all.. well.. aren't motorycles

When I get too old or feeble to hold up a motorcycle..
