Title: Frame Cuts Post by Chris H. on 10/03/16 at 11:10:35 I'm going to start cutting my frame for my bobber project. I have a reciprocating saw and metal blades. Should I wait to borrow my buddy's angle grinder? I've got a couple days off and want to get started, but I don't want to make more work for myself in the long run. |

Title: Re: Frame Cuts Post by Ruttly on 10/03/16 at 12:33:28 Saws all is my 2nd most favorite tool, 1st would be a Hammer I used die grinder with cutoff discs then finished with a grinder ! |
Title: Re: Frame Cuts Post by Gary_in_NJ on 10/03/16 at 12:40:30 I used both a saws all and a die grinder on my frame cuts. It depended on the tube being cut and how much finish work I wanted to do. Die grinder gives a cleaner cut more accurate cut that requires less "dress-up" then the saws all. When I use a saws all I leave a little extra material for clean-up. An angle grinder is a great tool for finish work, but I still use a fine file for the final pass. |
Title: Re: Frame Cuts Post by Dave on 10/03/16 at 13:34:06 I remember now the part that was so hard on the Sawzall blades. It was shortening the tubes at the front of the frame where the footpegs and front engine mounts are. When I did the Cafe' conversion the forward mount pegs went away, and I shortened the tubes that hold the front footpeg mounts - and I got 1 cut for each blade! |
Title: Re: Frame Cuts Post by Chris H. on 10/03/16 at 14:20:32 Managed to get the shock towers cut off with one blade. Now I just need to clean up the frame when my buddy brings by the flapper disc. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b162/dinoshavbabies/0457CD37-6AC7-40A1-B7FE-08252E9D9A73_zps4u7x1w2f.jpg (http://s19.photobucket.com/user/dinoshavbabies/media/0457CD37-6AC7-40A1-B7FE-08252E9D9A73_zps4u7x1w2f.jpg.html) |

That's what I have, worked great. |
Title: Re: Frame Cuts Post by Chris H. on 10/04/16 at 13:30:34 Finished my frame cuts. Tank mounts, upper engine mounts, and shock towers. Cleaned up and painted, now I'm just waiting on parts. Sadly they're probably about a month out. I think I'll probably check my valve clearance while I'm waiting. Also, I've been doing some staring to figure out what color I want to powder coat the tins. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b162/dinoshavbabies/61F53DB2-9179-4F09-9978-AFAE378CC11C_zpsz3qfpeje_1.jpg |
