Title: Tune up/dyna muffler/petcock upgrade
Post by JIbber Jabber on 09/29/16 at 21:29:37

So I just past my 600 miles, and plan to bring it into shop for the tune up. I recently purchased a dyna muffler for $60 that I will have them install and rejet as well (I'm a noob). Additionally, I want to upgrade my petcock to the raptor but I don't have it yet, so my question is, should I wait until I get it and then have them do it all, or have them do the tune up and muffler install and I can do the peacock myself? Would it affect the overall tune and calibration if it's done separately?

Thank you!

Tuneup?
Just change the oil and filter and ride.
Get a manual, read, and get ready for the 5,000 mile valve adjustment.
The shop isn't gonna be slapping that Dyna on.. unless you are ready to pay out the nose, and don't expect them to jet it Right, if they will even do it.
You won't be a noob forever
Unless you pay people to do stuff.

There's nothing wrong with finding a mechanic who will let you watch the valve adjustment.. but if you don't at least get to watch, you'll be just as in the dark at 10,000 miles.

Don't listen to the
Check and retorque head bolts
Line,

Dude: I don't know your mechanical ability, but there is so much info on this site that there is no reason to take your bike to a dealer.
Try taking off the original muffler, then put it back on. You'll get the feel of what is involved to do the Dyna. READ! DO! Buy the Manual!
cheers! 8-)

There are several types of Dyna muffler.
Which one did you get?

If you are taking it to a shop to get the DYNA mounted.....buy the RYCA angle adapter.  A shop most likely won't do it with the soup can hacksaw method.

Phew, I can just feel all the love ;) I use my bike as a commuter, I'm  afraid I will screw things up I be left with nothing until I resolve the issues. As for my mechanical abilities, I've learnt how to change the battery, and thx to this site, I problem solved a blown fuse.

Can someone post link for the ryca adapter? My muffler model is #65747-94

Petcock doesn't affect fuel/air mixture unless it's bad.
The cheapest one on the internet is not the one to get.
You do need to be prepared to plug the vacuum to the stock petcock.
A fifth grader could do the swap.

Read my post above. At 600 miles, there is no tune up.
Phone calls, prices, Suzuki isn't the only place in town.

Jabber,

You can easily do the Raptor Petcock yourself.

Make sure you get a genuine Raptor Petcock.
Yamaha Raptor Part #5LP-24500-01

Watch that you don't lose the sealing washers when you remove the old petcock.

Ok just ordered a genuine petcock, and ryca adaptor, I will attempt to install myself. I also switched the my air filter to k&n and few months ago thinking I would get more horsepower [ch128563]. I would really like to be able to rejet myself, but feel like it might be above my pay grade.

Where do you live?

Maybe you are near somebody that is handy with their wrenches?

I live in Brooklyn, NY. The only other person I know, is the person I bought the muffler off, and he purchased the same bike around the time I did.

Jib:  get a tube of Permatex Fuel goop stuff before you start the raptor replacement, smear a bit on the gasket before tightening down.

Jetting is not difficult, I did my first on this bike.

White spacer mod needs patience to loosen the 2 small bolts above the needle.
Take your time, it aint hard, aint above your paygrade!
cheers! 8-)

I wish someone would explain the tool requirements , JIS, the hazards of the tiny screws, etc.

I don't want to sound negative here but I do want to bring up on consideration.  At 600 miles is it safe to assume this is a brand new current model year bike?  If so then making all the changes you are talking about may very well void your factory warranty.  That said there is not a lot of issues that I have heard of but if you have one you may have no warranty coverage at that point.  You may be better riding it until you are out of the warranty period and then make all your changes.

It is a 2013 model, but got it new, so you make a valid point. should I not make any changes and just do the oil change myself? Anything else I need to be aware off attend to at this point?

Be careful and get the oring in the groove on the filter cover, don't tighten one screw up,, get all three landed, pull it down evenly.

You can push the cover all the way down with one hand.
If you can't, somethings wrong.

Should I not make any changes due to warranty issues?

How long is your warranty?  It is a 2013 but when did you buy it and how long is the warranty today?

If it is still under warranty I personally wouldn't make those changes until the warranty was off.

So warranty is done..... You can pretty much do what you want now.  Suzuki wont cover anything that goes wrong.

It's not one year from when you purchased it?
