Title: 650 singles going away?
Post by Tocsik on 09/20/16 at 14:32:49

This came up in my daily Google Newsstand feed.  It's specific to dual sports but interesting factoid (?) about how the big cylinders deform when they heat up which is what causes oil to burn.

This guy created a by-pass that maintains the engine temperature at the optimum level.  It is supposed to work very well...

Best regards,

I guess the first 900 or so miles my engine didn't get warm enough to deform and use oil. Finally had to add oil the other day.

No reason they couldn't drop it down to a 500 and keep the power we have...
Heck,.. they could even add a little... :P

Yep, Bot...with a good head/engine design and EFI, there is no reason a 400 - 500 cc engine couldn't make more than the measly 30 HP we play with (my 250 Ninja makes the same HP as the stock Savage engine).  What will change....is the low end torque that we currently enjoy.  The smaller engine will have to be wound up a bit more for things to happen.

A 250 dual sport is fine in the dirt and back roads - it just doesn't have enough power to be a highway commuter or touring bike.  I do believe a 400 - 500 dual sport could be highway worthy.

Should I hold on to the 3 1/2 I have now ?
If Suzuki stopped making them there might be a mad rush for them, driving prices through the roof, then I could sell a couple and retire !  [ch128516][ch9996][ch65039][ch128526]

And the cans are smaller.  (Be sure to get the cans that include the snap on plastic lid - so you can save some for later).

True story,

I was working in a convenience store in Odessa Texas. Not the best part of town. Three old guys came in every day and bought a loaf of bread and a can of Alpo. I was so dumb,,, I asked the lady I worked with why would they have a dog. Then, when she told me they were eating it, I started paying for their stuff, so they could save money, and hopefully do better.

In two days every skid row bum in the county was coming to that store. I stopped paying.. and everything went back to a comfortable chaos.

Sometimes you gotta just let things be.

So true. Stifling the

is hard. The knee-jerk reaction may not be the wise way.
