Title: Went to a motorcycle "salvage" yard...
Post by Tocsik on 09/19/16 at 18:08:14

So I went to Ty's Re-Cycle Shop this weekend thinking I might find some rear shocks from an Intruder or anything else ~12" with 14mm bushings.
Place is only open Sundays from 12-3  ::).
It was obviously very laid back with about 7 dogs lying around sleeping, a huge warehouse type space and a big yard out back.
I didn't find anything for shocks because mine are pristine and I didn't want to throw something old, worn and/or rusted on my bike.  But it was still cool to go there and just look around (minus all the yellow jackets and wasps swarming the place as they made nests in every possible open tank, muffler and handlebar!).
If I had a project bike going, there are some cool fenders that would be fun to play with.  Tanks, too, if one was willing to de-rust the insides.
Anyone have luck at a place like this getting decent parts?

Where does one go about finding a motorcycle only junkyard? I've never seen one.

I just searched on the Googles.  We used to have one here years ago that closed.  Had a great name:  D.U.M.P.  Denver Used Motorcycle Parts  ;D

Dave:

To prevent stings from bees, wasps, yellow jackets, and hornets:

Avoid flowering plants, gardens, and trees with ripe fruit, where bees spend their time.
Although there is some vegetation... we're in a junkyard.
Do not use perfumes, scented soaps, or suntan lotion.
WD-40 and Rotella will likely not attract bees, apply liberally.
Do not wear bright colors, flowered prints, or rough-textured fabrics (such as wool), all of which attract bees.
You might need a bee keepers hat to cover that Q-tip.
Do not swat a bee or throw an object at a bee or wasp hive. Bees are more likely to attack if they feel threatened.
        'nuff said.
If caught in or near a swarm of bees or wasps, move away with slow, deliberate movements.
Run like the 6 million dollar man.

Once you've been stung remove stinger and apply a gob of yellow mustard to area of sting , mustard will numb it ! So don't forget the mustard on your road trip ! And your 300 dollar Efipen !

You can mix a paste of powdered meat tenderizer and a little water.  Put the paste on the sting and it will draw out a lot of the venom.

I need to go there and find parts for my bike. Even though my bike is a Honda GL500, I have had very good luck mixing brand parts. After all, anyone remember my old Savage "The FireLizard"?

I'm not a chopper guy, but I like that.  Is that the same as an XL engine?

That engine is your typical Savage/S40 engine. Reworked a bit with a more aggressive cam and re-jetted carb.

When I had a 1993 Kawasaki Concours 1000, I found that it held 7.1 gallons of fuel...sure felt all that weight "up high" after running down to reserve (besides the fact that it was a tall bike to begin with).
