I'm going to put rotella t6 in my 06 s40, am I going to have to add additional zddp into the engine oil? Or does the oil itself have enough without having to add?

I don't want to start an oil war, I just would like to know the facts.

It is my understanding that both Rotella T and Rotella T-6 have a claimed 1,200 ppm of ZDDP - which should be sufficient to protect the cam and rockers.

Those of us who are afflicted.....add 1 oz. of Redline ZDDP additive to each gallon. This gets us up to the maximum 1,400 ppm of ZDDP -which is the recommended maximum.

There was some discussion about some extra Moly being added to the T-6....but I can't quote a source or substantiate that the ZDDP in the T-6 has been reduced.

Dave? REALLY Dave? I thought you had All of these details dedicated to memory or on file cards .
Taking my windshield sticker scraper out to the shop and scraping a whole line of stars o ff, dude..

I was under the impression that the synth had less ZDDP than the dino version. Can you say if that's correct?
Or am I gonna be scraping Two'll lines of gold stars?

OF said that of T6, long term use in his grandma sickle was causing the clutch to slip. and definitely wasn't caused by the grin inducing sleeper that he rides.

1225 ppm for Rotella T (as of Aug. 2016). However, this is for 10W-30 which is not JASO certified.

I use Mobil1 racing 4T 10w40, 1200 ZDDP, in my bike. At the 4000 service the valves were perfect so that seems encouraging as far as valve wear is concerned. I never idle on the side stand and ride off gently as soon as the 'bits' are going round and round.

Don't know what this means at only 4000 miles, but it is a start. :)

The only concern about any oil marked "RACING" - does if have the additives needed to fight corrosion and protect seals over the long haul.

Dedicated racing oils that are used in racing are often changed after the race, and they often don't include the additives that protect the engine for months/miles between engine changes.
