Title: 43 MPG!
Post by zipidachimp on 09/13/16 at 22:38:38

took my 'new' '08 out for a ride to Squamish BC today. 183 kms round trip. Twistyturny, upydowny, 43mpg only, mostly 98 kph. This with 150 main jet and white spacer mod. Also, it stalled a couple times after a long run at speed, in traffic.  Raptor coming in mail.
Not exactly what I expected, but bike ran strong.

For comparison, I may take my'08 'tracker' on same trip next sunny day 8-)

Chimp , Is your tracker a Ryca?

It's possible you took a little too much off the white spacer.
but I wouldn't count mileage in the twisties, grins is what matters.

The 05, with cam, Supertrapp, main jet, spacer mod, desnorkelled, K/N air filter, jackrabbit starts,  more often than not I was using every turn to see what I could get out of it and me , and I got 49, my girl got 51.
Not that that little detail is something to make me Unhappy with the bike. But I Could be happier, if I could squeeze that mileage out of it. I don't ride near as hard now,

I won't be putting the k and N in this one

I got 73 stock but since I've rejetted it's down to around 60-65.

I get a fairly dependable 60 mpg. out of mine. You also know I don't thrash it. :)

I was averaging mid-50's with I first got mine with 2745 miles on her.  I'm at about 12K miles now and averaging a little over 50 mpg with a 140/90 rear tire and Kawasaki front pulley.  I average every 10 tanks or so.

2008 rejetted and white spacer mod, DYNA muffler.  Last I was tracking mileage I was 45-55mpg, but mostly under 50mpg since I do a lot of around town-ish riding.

RUT: tracker is homemade, 140/90 rear, tall shocks, tracker bars, more of a 'hotrod' bike than a true tracker. Don't know the mpg of this one.  8-)

Yeah I have only seen pics of 3 other Ryca trackers,1 was the one Ryca built the blue one on their website. Everybody builds the CS1

When I first got my Savage and was riding cool and calm - I got 62 mpg .

As time went on and my engine got a cam, Wiseco, headwork, a Mikuni Rounslide and a different exhaust......it am in the 50-55 mpg area.

When I am riding around on the Dragon or Route 28 and trying to scrub the rubber off the sides of my tires.........it can drop below 50 mpg.

If you get 43 mpg riding around normally - you either have the bike jetted to rich, the engine is in need of some valve or piston ring work - or you keep riding into a strong wind or uphill all the time.  (I imagine a large windshield and saddlebags can cut mileage down).

Where should I start with leaning the bike down a little?

Denton, TX elevation is 642 ft. Surrounding area varies from 500 to 900 ft.

I have 52.5 Idle Jet & 152.5 Main Jet with 3 Washers under the needle. The Idle Screw is out about 2 1/2 turns.

The bike runs good and is very smooth.

Do you know what jets are in the carb now?  Do you have the stock air filter, and a stock or Dyna muffler?

For sea level and a bit higher....like up to 2,000 feet, a #150 Main, #50 pilot and 3 washers on the needle is a good starting point.

Easiest way is around the kitchen table.
Mine's pretty heavy around there.

This!

I go about 60 miles before I need to go to reserve, and I'm guessing it's about 1-1/2 gallons so 45 mpg sounds in the ball park.

Nobody hires a Sumo wrestler as a jockey.
Want the bike to be quick and get more MPG?
Don't Be bigger than you need to be.

I weigh less than 170 LB.

Brought forward from earlier post.

Denton, TX elevation is 642 ft. Surrounding area varies from 500 to 900 ft.

I have 52.5 Idle Jet & 152.5 Main Jet with 3 Washers under the needle. The Idle Screw is out about 2 1/2 turns.

I have the Dyna muffler installed with no leaks.

I am still running the Suzuki stock air filter.

The bike runs good and is very smooth.

But, the best I get is 45 MPG and usually it it is around 43 MPG......

Mine does about 47mpg. Good enough. It runs great.

The 2005 delivered 49, with a Stage One cam, Supertrapp with 14 disks, K and N filter, desnorkled, airbox modification, needle height adjust, and I rode it like I stole it.

The 2002 has the cam, unsure of what main jet, but not stock, stock air filter, airbox, snorkel is on it, IDK if the white washer is unmolested, and it's wearing a Dyna, and I still get about 42 mpg, and I ride MUCH more sanely.
I haven't touched a peg down yet.

Post by verslagen1 on 09/16/16 at 14:21:11

Kenny, tuning for best power vs. best mpg are 2 different things.

For best mpg, stock would be the starting point.
I found I got a little better mpg going to a 150 with stock pilot and white spacer.
My altitude is close to yours.

Another thing to watch is your dyna muff.  mine got clogged up some how.

I have a more restrictive exhaust and intake, yet, my mileage is around 7mpg less,, so, I'm confused.

Title: Re: 43 MPG!
Post by Kris01 on 09/16/16 at 19:09:39

Restriction = engine works harder

Title: Re: 43 MPG!
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 09/16/16 at 19:29:40

I don't think you're considering everything.
I just Changed exhaust, and the mileage didn't change.
It's a Dyna, not stock.

Are you perhaps enjoying that Dyna a little more than the stock muffler?

Title: Re: 43 MPG!
Post by Kenny G on 09/16/16 at 20:02:43

Verslagen,

I guess my concern is that if other guys are getting 50 MPG why don't I get it?

I have tuned according to Lancer's recommendations and the bike really runs good so I am reluctant to change anything.

I think that I will leave well enough alone and if I have a reason at another time to remove the carburetor I may try cutting the main jet down one size.

The Jardine coughed its guts out.
Replaced with the dyna
Same riding
Same mpg
And I don't see why it should be less than the
05 , but it is.

Kenny, I get well over 50. Do you ride aggressively or shift higher than normal?

Dave....I think you meant 50 pilot jet 150 main.
