It's not the fall that will kill you. It's the sudden landing.

Still downright scary to watch.

It's only half as scary as the first time I watched it.
This time I only had to cover one eye.

Come on Dave, no need to steal my thunder.   ;)  Oops, must of missed that one.

Incidentally, what was that thing used for?  I mean a 600 foot chimney?

Best regards,

I wouldn't watch it at all, despite the fact that I've had three lots of aerobatics in a Tiger Moth bi plane and a tandem parachute jump from 12000 feet. Edgey things unsettle me.

Wise move, Stokes. I've worked derricks on oil rigs. Climbed across to tie onto dropped stands of pipe. No safety, just wet cold steel.. I could Do that... but watching a life threatening Stunt? Not without getting Nervous.

That's above normal altitude, isn't it?

You'd hafta inhale at Least four times to scream all the way down from 12,000 feet.

Just saw a report on the news about workers in China building the world's highest suspension bridge at over 1800 ft.! Remember, a quarter miles is 1320 ft.  :o

Kris01, the cheap jump was from 7500 feet the 12000 footer wasn't that much dearer, so more bang for the buck. I think the tandem guy opened the chute at 7500. I think you can go to 13000 and a bit before you need oxygen.

When I got my jump wings the jump was from 400m altitude = 1300ft.

But the parachuted opened automatically... immediately !

From 12000 or 13000 ft... There's a road mountain pass in India that's 16000 ft,
so I guess you could happily jump from 12/13000 and sing your way down and open your chute around 2000-1500 in full safety...

I've jumped from a little over 14000 ft. In Colorado without needing extra oxygen. Ok, it was standing on a mountain top but it still counts!  ;D
