Title: Hwy 129
Post by pg on 09/08/16 at 17:40:11

I'm in Robbinsville, NC and this truly is a special part of the world.  Unfortunately only here for 2 days and I have to head back.  I have some real nice photos if anyone is interested.

The dragon was tough this year.  There were four accidents yesterday and I happened to come two of them after the fact.  They said their was a fatality this past weekend as well.  I spoke to some locals they say their is two or three accidents a day.  I didn't realize it was that dangerous.

Best regards,

Glad you got to experience it. Now you know what all the fuss is about  :)

There are many other great rides up there as well.

Stay safe

Don't miss riding on 28....it is one of my favorite roads in the area.  You can get on it at Deals Gap on the north end....and just ride south!

Hwy 30 between Marion NC, and the parkway is better and the speedlimit there is 55mph.  :)

be sure to go to Little Switzerland --- there ain't no wrong way to get there --- be careful !  ::)

I saw a story about Norman Reedus (actor from The Walking Dead show) riding down the dragon this past summer. It was a pretty interesting article.

I rode the Dragon on the Vision last year and, to be honest, I wasn't that impressed. Yes, it was long and curvy but I was expecting something much harder after all the hype.

And The Hub in Robbinsville: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g49483-d5328248-Reviews-The_Hub-Robbinsville_North_Carolina.html was a yummy place to have lunch after The Dragon.

Here are a couple pics for those who have never been to Appalachia or the Dragon.

Well, if it did not hold your interest then just pick up your average speed by 10-20 mph.   8-)

Yea ... just try to keep you speed between 30mph min. and 39mph max.   Good luck with that .  ;D
Anybody can jerk it open on the strait sections , but that Min. part will humble most of us ... me too on a couple of them !  ::)

Enjoyed the pictures :  :)
