Title: Muffler upgrade Post by JIbber Jabber on 08/22/16 at 08:21:51 I am a relatively new owner of the s40, have it for 6 months with about 500 miles, and live in Brookly, NY. I would like to upgrade my muffler for two reason, for the extra safety so I can be heard, and for the potential extra power. I've been looking around and reading a little bit in the forums. My question is, can someone direct me or give a suggestion on the best muffler. I don't want something that is not too loud in the low revs, but yet loud enough once I get on the gas; easy install, and if possible no re-jetting. I know I'm asking for a lot, and possibly not possible, but as a last resort, if I need to bring it into a shop to rejet, then that's what I'll do; just trying to save a few bucks if possible. |
Title: Re: Muffler upgrade Post by stewmills on 08/22/16 at 08:32:20 Go here and read this information. http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1298689417 The DYNA is the best option for an easy swap as well as the best potential for not requiring rejetting. Depending on your elevation, etc. it may need adjustment but you may not know until you try it first and see how it behaves. Maybe another NY member can advise you on their swap and jetting? Make sure you get one that has NOT been drilled out or baffle removed. You need the baffle for proper back pressure. |

Title: Re: Muffler upgrade Post by Dave on 08/22/16 at 08:37:55 And if you want to spend a lot of money and get a "bolt on" muffler, then SuperTrapp makes a good muffler. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPERTRAPP-MEGAPHONE-MUFFLER-CHR-SUZUKI-650-SAVAGE-72850650-4-CH-LS650-86-03-/322060977867?hash=item4afc5486cb:g:ckgAAOSwsN9W~~35&vxp=mtr |
Title: Re: Muffler upgrade Post by JIbber Jabber on 08/22/16 at 08:43:20 Thx for the response, I did read that forum on the Dyna and and I'm in the process of contacting a fellow member in the NYC area. I believe he had the Jardine muffler, so we shall see. I would love ot be able to upgrade and understand my bike, but I'm not a big reader, more the hands on type, so videos and pictures are best for my learning style. |

Title: Re: Muffler upgrade Post by Kris01 on 08/22/16 at 18:48:28 If you want loud then that Jardine fits the bill. |
Title: Re: Muffler upgrade Post by LANCER on 08/23/16 at 09:21:28 Cone Engineering makes some excellent mufflers; all stainless; assorted shapes and sizes with different baffles to choose from, and the prices average $140-150. |
Title: Re: Muffler upgrade Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/23/16 at 12:54:45 I have a Jardine. Once fully warmed up the surging at low throttle settings either goes away or gets so subtle way I don't feel it. It doesn't give me that throaty snarling spitting deceleration rumble the Supertrapp with 14disks did. The backfiring and fortyish MPG are inspiring me to hunt a Dyna. If I don't dig the Dyna I guess I will look at something else.I sure did like that Supertrapp, but it's ugly and expensive. Too bad we can't try mufflers on like shoes,, |
Title: Re: Muffler upgrade Post by Kris01 on 08/23/16 at 19:46:44 40ish mpg? Stock mine got 73. Rejetted "properly" I get 55-60. |
Title: Re: Muffler upgrade Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/23/16 at 19:54:27 Yeah, I got 49 with the Supertrapp. I'm gonna be checking it closer, actually Write down the miles,, |
