A few days ago, I was having fun on this forum. Ruttly was having a storm with his rubber duckie parody, and we were all having a meaningful discussion on that sheared bolt. It was some of the best time I've ever had on this forum.

I had to go to work. I only get paid for 3 hours work. I've nearly quit trying. I may have to get another job before there's nothing left. They expect so much performance out of you and pay so little. I stayed 7 hours (in no hurry) and still didn't get everything done. I asked my shift leader if he was okay with finishing it (He has to do it anyway the days I'm not there). He was okay, though he really couldn't say no, since he can't ask me to work for nothing. ::) I woke up the next morning realizing I had forgotten something. When I call, I'm greeted, not by the lower leadership which I get along with, but by the relatively new manager who I've never really worked with, someone strict who I'm already annoyed with and don't like. I learn that that one thing wasn't the only thing that got missed. Now, the manager is pissed and I find that I can't trust my shift leader (should have known better anyway, knowing him). Don't say it... It was my job, and I was paid to do it. I'm paid trash wages, though, and the new management doesn't seem very good at relationships... not with me, anyway... the others seem to think she's okay. There's one way to pay people nearly nothing, and that's to keep them happy working for nearly nothing. She doesn't seem to care.

Now, my work is one of my major sources of socialization. I'm having trouble there. My other major source of socialization is this forum. I went to work Wednesday. Perhaps, the day before this happened or so, JOG HAD JUST ARRIVED FROM HIS TRIP. TIRED AND DRAINED, HE LOOKED AT MY THREAD AND IMMEDIATELY DECIDED I SHOULD BE CRUCIFIED. This one trigger was all it took. A whole bunch of people immediately grabbed their torches and pitchforks and decided that I should be tarred and feathered.

JOG wasn't enough. For awhile, I could deal with that. But then, I get up out of bed and make this tragic phone call, then I look at my thread, and Gary is calling my writing "weapons-grade stupid." Both my major sources of socialization are falling apart at the same time. Don't go and think you can call someone's work stupid and them not get upset.

And, now, someone has possibly benefited from what he calls my "learning experience." Yeah, somebody in RSD had nearly the exact same problem, and he got his fixed without catastrophe. What do I get in return you say? I get sh@t on some more! Does anyone appreciate the trouble I go through here, or can people only b!tch about how stupid I am? Do you guys really deserve to benefit from my mistakes with the way you treat me?

I cannot dare debate the powers that be without pissing them off. The high and mighty engineers and Ph.D's around here cannot tolerate anyone who dares question them or any other engineer or Ph.D. I guess only an engineer can challenge an engineer. What if I had come up with the Verslavy mod? Would it have gotten anywhere, or would you simply have pissed it off as stupid, coming from some stupid little boy? Whatever an engineer says, I must accept it without question regardless if I fully agree or understand it. Engineers and Ph.D's can do no wrong, and if they do, only other engineers and Ph.D's can recognize it.

Say your engine blew up at 25,000 miles? It's the users fault for not replacing the cam chain at 18000 miles. That soft cam chain was put in there on purpose. It absorbs shock and reduces wear on other more important components. How dare anyone question the perfect judgment of Suzuki?!? Seriously, guys, Are your egos that fragile? You spend so much money and work so hard... Is the approval and instant agreement and submission of everyone under you all you care about? Can you not tolerate someone who doesn't instantly accept everything you say as "end of story?" I like to talk about stuff, and if there's any question in my mind or something I don't accept or understand, I'm liable to talk about it. I've even disagreed with my professors. It was civil, it wasn't insulting or anything, but it was disagreement. That's how I learn. What is this, a "'cause I say so, I'm da boss, you don't like it, then you stupid'" game?

Then, Oldfeller decides I'm a pest or something and threatens me with some sort of strongarming. I don't take that kindly. That's a provokation that goes past annoying/pissing off. It goes to the bone. What does he expect to do to me? Ban me? Constantly delete posts? Blackmail? Unspeakably (and illegally) worse? I actually considered coming to meet you guys. I have to wonder. Are you going to make me feel like sh!t the whole time, or is somebody going to find a way to get rid of me? WERE TALKING ABOUT KENTUCKY, AFTER ALL. Accidental discharge...oops, cheapy was in the way...[kicks him over into pond]...whistles while sidestepping away.

If I'm not mistaken I'm not the only one who has used motor oil in his forks or mixed it with ATF. Supposedly, it has even been factory spec'd in some cases. Gizzo will tell you that. For someone with primitive suspension who doesn't want to pay for plain low vi summer use only fork oil and doesn't feel like going for the really good high dollar stuff... And you think it's dangerous? Because I'm a newbie? Because it's not "fork oil?" Gizzo even said I could put custard in it. WD talks of gear oil. Really, who gives a d@mn?

With the bolts, after the 3rd page, it immediately goes to hell when Justin starts his b!tching. There's still some useful things said after that, but there's just too much flaming. I even started rambling (not flaming, just talking) a bit before the 4th page, before Justin started. The best is probably from the first page to about 2.5 pages in. When you take my random ideas and add his b!tching, that's all it takes for Dave to jump in. When I happen to argue against his point, he gives a quick jab with his pitchfork and says he's had enough. Then Gary comes in, gets mad, and defecates on the whole thing, and the fight continues. Not long before Oldfeller comes in and makes his friendly threat. Who is this guy? A mafia boss or something? I don't know...It's like just one big mob attack.

Yeah, the stripped bolt thread might have some controversial ideas, particularly lubing threads with motor oil. It might be a good idea to NOT recommend that for newbies. WD-40... Diesel fuel, maybe, but no motor oil. Other than that... there's some pretty good stuff there. But go ahead and delete it if you dare; I can't say this community really deserves to benefit from my mistakes considering the lack of respect I get.

They can never be wrong! Bolts don't strip unless the user screwed up, random problems don't happen! Nothing can go wrong! Only cheapy can screw up simply because he's an idiot! Gary, you're right, I am "weapon's-grade stupid" Keep trusting your properly sized, high-dollar, anally serviced and calibrated torque wrenches. Nothing can go wrong! Nope!

Heck, who knows, the wrench could have come out of adjustment before torquing that last bolt without knowing it... who knows.

The title is totally appropriate. Go ahead and be academic and say the use of "anything" is stupid. It gets the point across. SO MANY THINGS CAN GO WRONG! The title bar is only so long, I can't write a half dozen things in the title bar! Yeah, it's lazy, goofy, ranty, funny, maybe? It works.

I'm liable to have more to say, by the way, but for now I'll just post this. This is the Tall Table, by the way. JOG is welcome to sit here and scream. Quite frankly, he told me "Screw you"... Well... from the way I've been treated, for a while anyway, I considered returning the favor. In fact, I've felt like giving a lot of people the good old fashioned middle-finger/F-you and taking my bed. I don't have much of a social life, so you guys mean a lot to me. When it feels like my social life is crumbling apart with almost nothing left for me, do you blame me for being frustrated? I felt that way yesterday.

Son, I could preach to you, from a almost 64 years of perspective.....
But, it is better to suggest a remedy that worked wonders for me, allowing me to reach this old age, with more to come.
Read a book called the four agreements, it is very small but packed with much wisdom. I suggest your read it and let the message speak to you....

My take on what I've observed regarding your posts cheapnewb:

You seem to be very eager and quick to dive in to things. That's not the issue, though.
A lot of folks have tried to help you and have been frustrated by the lack of consideration you have given that help and advice. Initially, many of the folks who have come to dread your posts honestly wanted to help you and keep you from making rash decisions, mistakes and moving too fast. Most folks are over it now because you just don't seem to listen. I know that may sting and make you defensive, but I've got 3 kids in their 20's and I'm trying to offer helpful words of kindness to you the way I would want others to offer to my kids.
Slow down. Listen to the advice given. Ask yourself:
Does this need to be said?
Does this need to be said by me?
Does this need to be said by me right now?

I have done this for others,... you aren't the only one.

Besides that... sorry things are sucky right now, but everything that comes around, goes around.
Sounds like you need a new job,.. or you need to let your boss know that you need a little more respect...
Some people will push to find your limits... you need to draw that line.
At the least,... make it clear, that you don't work for free...

How old are you?
What is your education?
What would you Do, every day, for Free, if you didn't need a paycheck?
IOW, what are the things you are interested in, passionate about?
Stop by the local college.
Go to registration, ask to speak to a counselor, ask about aptitude tests.

As for me crucifying you, if you'll recall I've given you good advice that went unheeded. It's tiresome, typing and trying to figure out How to help people. Watching them ignore it and seeing what happened because of it, seeing More Help needed, it's a pisser.

If you're butthurt, consider how inconsiderate of OUR best efforts you've been.
I don't argue with the guys here, but you seem to feel obligated to turn every statement into a doctoral thesis.

I almost have a Bachelor's degree (Business-Entrepreneurship). I have one more class to take (Macroeconomics- a relatively basic class). I planned on studying and testing out of it via CLEP. It's been over a year since I have taken classes, and I just haven't gotten to it yet. I didn't start there, but that's where I finished. Taking those online classes at home and then all that time... When I went to the campus, I was pretty happy. They pumped me up, and now I've deflated. I'm done with them and am somewhat disenchanted with education. I'm a bit too stingy for it, and I don't really have faith in myself anymore. Too lazy... don't like running the rat race anymore, getting pushed and shoved, poked and prodded.. I used to be pretty ambitious. Didn't know exactly where I was going, but I wanted those straight A's. Something broke.

The second year, I majored in Biology (Biomedical Sciences) and declared minors in Philosophy and music. That didn't last, though. I left for home and finished with business classes (not very happy :(). If you can't tell, I had a tendency to go for the deep, interesting stuff. If the college I went to had Mechanical Engineering at the time (they have it now), who knows, I might have taken it. They had engineering, just not exactly what I liked. By the time they got it, it was too late. Besides that, the time and difficulty... what they put you through... a bit intimidating. If they had offered it at the right time... who knows... I might have tried it. :-/ Then, I love music. Couldn't tell, could you?

If I sound stupid these days, perhaps a little of it is because I quit trying so much to be smart. Maybe I'm a little too lazy to try to make all my posts look like a doctoral thesis or something (I mean in being disciplined and perfect and all fancy and precise and such) I don't really study anymore. I'm mostly floating.

I'm 25 years old.

Things I'd do for free everyday.... Hmmm... One thing on that list might be to sing. Parents don't have much faith in that...Generally considered a rather dumb thing to try to make a living at. Some other people thought I had promise, though. I performed on stage at a local college with a guitar class once, and I did rather well. Guitar teacher thought I should advertise to join a band or something.

I'm 55 and have been around the block more than once as they say so I know this to be true: Life is hard enough without purposely going out of your way to make it harder.

If you find people on this forum offer you no value, then fxxk em. Yes, screennames represent real live people somewhere in the world, but the words we type are no different than words in a book you've never read: the only value they have is the value you give them.

Regarding work; it's tough out there but not impossible. I think you said you're in business. Successful business is, in my opinion (give it the value you think it worthy of) is two things: 1) standing out rather than fitting it 2) bringing value to your organization or your customers.

I'm in sales and I always say my job is like being an NFL punter: It looks really easy and simply: kick a ball 45 yards or so 3 or 4 times once a week. But the reality is there's a lot of work that goes into it behind the scenes and it takes a long time to achieve what looks to be a natural ability. I always have in the back of my head that someone's out there waiting to take my job so when it's time for me to kick that ball, I have to deliver.

Work hard at whatever job you have, be the best at it, it is a competition after all. Sooner or later, it will happen for you. But remember, that "sooner or later" part might be measured in years, maybe decades. I really didn't find my sweetspot until I was in my 40's. That's 15 more years for you, but that time's going to tick by no matter what you do so you might as well take a long term approach to it.

And while you're on that road, enjoy it. This amazing God-given creation we live in has far more good than bad despite the fact it sometimes seems the other way. It's not. The sun always comes up and the sky is never going to fall.

My opinion:

You are a smart kid and know how to do a lot, analytical, and not scared to take something apart and try...which is more that most kids. You deserve credit for that.

However, I think you are one of those personalities that needs someone to tell you that you did something good and that you are in fact not an idiot, and you aren't getting that at home or work, so you are hoping to get that here. The difficulty in you getting that here is (in my opinion) you contest others advice because subconsciously you want to try and show your mechanical prowess and for people to think you are smart (not that you aren't) so they can stroke you a little.

I don't think you are ever going to get that here. There is more than on way to skin a cat and most of the tricks of the trade have been tried and true and that's where all of the advice comes from....which you don't want to take until you're too far down the rabbit hole and it's often too late.

If you can participate and learn to not always be the top dog with your threads and engage in simple, semi-professional dialogue then folks won't hammer on you as much. Sure, I like it when someone tells me I did something cool, but I don't come here for that nor do I get upset when I don't get it...and I don't contest advice that is offered to my questions. I may "discuss" it to ensure I understand it clearly, but act like that I know more than they do...I'll pass. No, I don't always do everything that everyone tells me (I'm keeping my stock petcock!!!) but I don't argue with them about it.

Cheapy, there's no use you getting all butthurt about the way you're being treated here. You complain about people insulting you when in fact you have insulted engineers, mechanics, handymen, tool users, manufacturers and parts sellers in all kinds of ways. It's no surprise that people retaliate to your statements. If you can't take it, don't dish it out. If you feel hard done by in the Savage forum, pop over to dotheton.com and try your antics there. You'll soon discover how gentlemanly the treatment you receive here really is.
You've wasted a lot of people's time asking for advice then ignoring it, causing yourself more grief and having the hide to then lay the blame on other people, the materials and parts, or the sh!tty tools you're using. Has your dad read what you've said about him? :'(
All that aside, if you ask a sensible question or for advice and act in a respectful manner, I think you'll find everyone on this forum will let bygones wash under the bridge and you'll be treated with the respect you deserve.
I'm pretty sure you've had all the career advice you can take by now. But here's another 2c. If you can't get a job doing what you love, find something that you don't hate. Unless you secretly enjoy being whipped at the pizza shop, it's time to move on. By your studies, you seem to have proven you're an intelligent guy. Just go finish the darn degree. Show employers you can finish what you start. That's an important quality to possess. Even if you don't end up using the degree, at least it's there to show. And if you want to sing, just f...ing do it. It's your life. Do what you want with it. Good luck champ.
