Title: Does a new stock cam chain tensioner help?
Post by KNude on 08/16/16 at 18:19:29

Hi,

I had to work on my clutch and coincidentally noticed that my cam chain tensioner is extended by 22mm. Does a new stock tensioner help at all or will it just automatically extend to the same position as the old one once installed? The cam chain should probably be changed too, but I'm looking for a quick fix that would allow me to ride the bike for at least a little while without worrying for the tensioner to fail completely.

The bike has about 47000 km on the odo, no service history available.

Thanks!
- K.

No.  New stock is exactly the same as what you have in there now.  You need Verslagen's modified tensioner.  It'll give you another probably 40,000 k (around 20,000 miles) before having to replace the chain

Your chain is only around half way to its service limit.  The tensioner has exceeded its limit.  It's good you caught it before it fell out and killed your engine. Versy's tensioner will let you use the rest of the service life of the chain and it has a retainer so it can't fall apart and kill your engine.

Thank you for the info, guys!

I ordered the TBKS from Thumperbike since they're closer to my location.
