Title: Disc drilling Post by Armen on 08/05/16 at 18:14:19 Not much metal in these discs, so I only poked a few holes in. |
Title: Re: Disc drilling Post by Kris01 on 08/05/16 at 18:22:55 Think it will do any good? |
Title: Re: Disc drilling Post by verslagen1 on 08/05/16 at 18:31:02 in between the patterns of three... you need a pattern of 2 so that the whole pad is swept. I think the holes do a lot of good, since I've had them, I don't have to clean the disc every so often to keep it from squealing. http://www.savageriders.com/verslagen/Disk/diskx4.jpg |
Title: Re: Disc drilling Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/05/16 at 19:39:50 What size holes? |
Title: Re: Disc drilling Post by Armen on 08/08/16 at 18:02:08 Verslagen1 Like this? Almost didn't bother, but I threw the disc back on the jig and wrote an extra few steps on the program. If I did it again, I'd prob do fewer holes. The disc is pretty minimal. |

Title: Re: Disc drilling Post by zipidachimp on 08/08/16 at 21:49:51 Holes work against friction, less material, but they look cool! 8-) |
Title: Re: Disc drilling Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/08/16 at 21:57:07 Guys, I'm planning on doing it.. What size holes are you using? |

Yep, nice pattern, I may steal it from you. |
Title: Re: Disc drilling Post by Armen on 08/09/16 at 05:21:40 Help yourself Verslagen. I might go to 8 sets of holes to give a little more metal between the holes. That and rotate the pattern so that the holes aren't near the arms. I used incrementally larger bits as the holes went toward the perimiter. |
Title: Re: Disc drilling Post by Dave on 08/09/16 at 05:35:01 I don't have a CNC, or anything that would help to get the radial/circular swept pattern done evenly.....so I just used a protractor and my drill press. I drilled 2 holes in alternating paths. Your patterns look nicer - this one works and is easier for us amateurs! ;) |
Title: Re: Disc drilling Post by Armen on 08/09/16 at 07:18:39 Nice work Dave. The only time I tried to drill a disc on a drill press (in the 80's) I gave up after cooking a bunch of drill bits. Stainless does a lousy job of transferring heat and work hardens real fast. I drilled a disc a while ago and did 300+ holes with one drill bit. The joys of a CNC with a flood coolant system ;) -Armen |
Title: Re: Disc drilling Post by SavageMan99 on 08/09/16 at 11:54:56 Put it on a rotary table, Chuck an end mill up and cut a 360 slot in the center... :o |

I wish we had stainless. |
Title: Re: Disc drilling Post by Armen on 08/09/16 at 15:14:52 ? I've never seen an OEM Japanese brake disc that isn't stainless. |

I don't really consider 400 series stainless. |
