Title: Making it taller
Post by SavageMan99 on 08/04/16 at 07:45:25

Right now I am just spit balling, as I have waaay to many things going on .
What have others done to get the bike up higher for a taller rider and better ground clearance?  Going for an enduring feel, like my 70's Yamaha DT was.  Going to mostly keep it on the street of course.
Anyone put a rectangular seat on one, seems that would put the rider up taller.  If I could gain the height, I might be able to lose the forward controls with some modding.
Picked the bike up yesterday.

Lots of it going on in the Bike Builds section....you just need to spend some time looking around in there.  Longer shocks, different seats, larger diameter rear rim/tire, etc.

You can find the Bike Builds section at the top of this page in the "sticky" section...or here is a link:

Is there an 18 inch spoke rim that is a swap?  Or, is there a way to get a rim spoked to my hub?

You have to build a wheel up using your hub with a new rim and spokes.  About a $200+ project.  Add in a new tire, tube and you pobably have to modify the swingarm.  Also, you can use a flat seat (scrambler, cafe, tracker, etc) if you want to make a bracket and you can use longer shocks.

You are basically doing a Ryca conversion.

Getting a rim and spokes for the rear wheel was done repeatedly in the bike builds link I sent you.  Buchanan's Spoke and Wheel in CA makes the needed spokes, and they will punch the rim to match the needed spoke angle.  You don't need to modify the swingarm unless you use a really tall vintage style tire....tires up to 130/70-18 will fit fine (but use a 3.50-18 rim if you are going with that wide of a tire).

Cast wheels.....16" rear, 19" front I believe.

I read through a bunch of those, didn't know about the respoking place though.  Like I said, just pipe dreaming anyhow.  Today I unloaded it and had it fall on me.  Glad it's a light bike.  Bent the shifter a little, luckily my gut cushioned it quite well.
