Title: Full face helmet that goes with the style of S40?
Post by och on 07/28/16 at 17:06:36

Looking for recommendation on full face helmets that go with the old school styling of our bikes. I guess I'm looking for a helmet that looks old school but has all the modern features/safety and within reasonable price range. Open for all suggestions.

I doubt it.....it looks like it is on her pretty tightly.

(But I wouldn't mind giving it a try!) ;)

How about a open face with a bubble shield ? And the color can't match the bike. Just not satin black.

Pinwheels, pinwheels rock!  Nothing says"tough guy" like a paisly riding jacket, an ascot,  and pinwheels on his sissy bar.  Any chance you could find one of those way cool bicycle helmets with the long point on the back and a little mirror clipped upfront?

Sorry, drinking yuengling lager at the end of a hot day putting my diesel.engine together some.
I'm giving it a Captain America paint job.  Silly, but it makes this PTSD vet smile to do odd little different things.
Or  maybe it's the beer.

I wear an Arai Phil Read replica helmet but I am sure she looks way better than I do on the best day!  :'(

Savage,

I am from Pennsylvania and I remember Yuengling Beer.

It was so popular in Lancaster that every bar had it on tap and in bottles.

When you ordered "Gimme a Lager" they automatically knew a person wanted a Yuengling.

I too enjoyed many a yueng with many a wing... Moved to oh and this craft beer stuff makes it tough.    Pocono lager was also a close second... Bit sweeter

I wear the HJC CSR2 but I don't think it's what you're looking for. I like it though.

Och,

I've been trying to get something similar to what you're describing. A full face helmet that looks retro, is well vented, has modern day protection and hopefully between $100 and $200. Over the past 3-4 weeks, I've been checking out tons of web pages but when it comes to helmets, I really prefer to try them on before plunking down that kind of cash. I've seen the-café-racer.com stuff and they look good, just not perfect (for me).

So until I can find exactly what I want, I ended up getting an EL-CHEAPO Bilt Blaze helmet from the local Cycle Gear. It was only $50 and I can always sell it used for $30 at a yard sale this fall if I can locate exactly what I'm looking for.

Good luck in your search, and please update us if you find something awesome!! Maybe I'll steal your idea and get one for myself.   ;)

I had a white, HJC modular. I used it to bend a cab corner, closing speed of probably around thirty MPH. Took two stitches in a lip instead of facial reconstruction.

I have a 3 year old HJC CL-16 and have been very pleased with it for the money. Here's a pic of the updated CL-17 that has a few minor modifications.

I've got the same HJC helmet in the same color (bike is black). It's retro enough for me.

Biltwell makes the only truly vintage looking full face helmet. Fit is a crap shoot. They make decent hanging flower baskets once you get sick of them. [ch127867]

WD, I'll completely agree with you there. Biltwell helmets look great, but as you said, trying to find something that fits might be tough. The yellow and orange striped full face is probably the best looking retro helmet I've seen since I've been looking for the past two months.

I think I heard somewhere on SS a few months ago that "Biltwell just don't Fitwell".

So, Biltwell doesn't necessarily mean
Built to fit?
Who do helmet makers use for fitment dummies?
Charlie Brown? Leno? Elephant Man?

Just a guess. I'm not an insider or anything.

Those Biltwell helmets do look retro.....but they also look like they provide absolutely no airflow around your noggin'.....

They look like they would be really hot and fog up easily.

There are reviews online, and comparisons.

I have the Gringo (not the S, so no visor.) I love it for the look, while still keeping me pretty.
On cold days I wear my HJC for the visor. The only fit issue I've run into is that I when I first bought it I felt like my chin hung out the bottom. But I think it was just because it's more open in the chin area.
With just glasses on I love having an open face feeling with fairly comprehensive coverage, but the S I'm afraid wouldn't leave you with much airflow.

I would say there's basically no such thing as a "classic" looking FF helmet...

So,.. just buy the one you like, and put a checkered flag racing stripe on it...
You can buy stick-on stripes...
:-?

If you bought this Biltwell helmet:

A bit of artistic work could transform it into "Bender"!

Bell 500 with shield for summer, AGV ff for cooler times. 8-)

Chimp,

I do the Bell 500 all year around.

I have used Bell 500's ever since the AMA insisted on using the 500 for racing.

The most recent one which is about 3 years old is not holding up well. The lining is peeling.
I am in the market for another brand of 3/4 open face helmet.
